Hmmm... I hope I don't get "Before Sunset" in a keepcase and "Before Sunrise" in an old-stock snapper, with the both of 'em wedged into some ad hoc slipcover. Anybody know how they're packaging the 2-fer?

They seemed to have removed it.

Amazon.ca still has the 2-pack listed (both Canadian and Import). But you'll notice that the coverart on both doesn't show up - as they're always linked to the Amazon.com site, and they've been removed from there.

All the sites that show upcoming coverart never seem to make any mention of the 2-pack.

I can see the 2-pack being released at a later date.

extras update via the Times:

"Presented in Anamorphic Widescreen with English and French DD5.1 Surround audio and optional English, French and Spanish subtitles. Extras include a behind-the-scenes featurette and theatrical trailer. "

Not much but I I dont think that the film needs that much of a in-depth exploration either. One could simply watch and enjoy.

As to the double pack....I have also no idea why you could not find it on Amazon. Blockbuster has in its system though.

What about the commentary? I read an interview with Linklater where he mentioned just finishing the commentary track for the Before Sunset DVD. Is it now not going to be on this release?

pro-bassoonist 10-14-04 05:54 PM

The Times indicates that the extras have been confirmed and I dont see a commentary mentioned there.

Review :(

Extras :(

This sounds like it has double dip written all over it, given the lack of extras on the Before Sunrise disc as well. Who would not be shocked by an SE set of these two movies, given their popularity?

Richard Malloy 11-01-04 01:53 PM

Lousy transfer? Forced trailers?? Featurette???

Fuck that. One of my 2-3 favorite movies of the year so far, and I won't be buying this disc.

(I'll rent it, of course)

slop101 11-01-04 04:37 PM

Here's a pretty thorough review of the dvd:

I will still pick it up. In fact, I would like to see and judge for myself.

...and if a SE ever comes out I will be the happiest person to double-dip (the first one in line as well).

So, lets see....

while i do hate forced trailers, in this case i don't care. this is my favorite movie in a loooong time and if they bring out a new SE later i will gladly pick that up. i will have this on tuesday.

slop101 11-02-04 09:45 AM

Maybe later, they'll put out a 2 or 3 disc set later with both movies and a bunch of extras, all together in one set.

steebo777 11-03-04 08:40 AM

I'm still getting it.

pro-bassoonist 11-03-04 02:24 PM

dvdbeaver has a review of the disc and by no means it is a disaster...as it has been claimed to be so far.

I love this film too and it's great to have a lot of people discussing a little film here.
I too wish they would come out with a S.E. of Before Sunrise.

pro-bassoonist 11-10-04 01:23 PM

A member just posted in the bargains forum that WB is using the old snapper for the 2 pack...only the new release is with a keepcase :(

My copy came with a $5 rebate if you buy both. Too bad for me, as I already own Before Sunrise. I was initially put off by the lack of extras but after watching it again last night I was struck by how the film needs nothing else. Somehow a commentary would seem at best superfluous. The transfer did seem a little murky but with a movie this good I can't sweat the small stuff.

enoque 11-10-04 10:34 PM

I just saw the 2pack of Before Sunrise/Sunset at Costco and it seems like they were packaging the 2 DVDs to sell for one price rather than a boxset type of packaging with a slipcase to fit both DVDs. Is that the two pack that is selling everywhere else or is it only Costco that's doing that and everyone else has a boxset? And yeah to confirm Before Sunrise comes in a snapper. Yeck.

pro-bassoonist 11-10-04 10:56 PM

What enoque said.....I would like to know as well....

jough 11-15-04 02:37 PM

The 2-pack is just the old Before Sunrise snapper and the new Before Sunset keepcase wrapped together with plastic wrap. It looks like Sunrise was NOT re-released in a keepcase as we'd hoped.

enoque 11-15-04 07:24 PM

how disappointing, but thanks for the response jough
