I want these '70s-'80s films on DVD!!!

I'm a huge fan of late 60's, 70's and 80's cinema. I have to give props to the DVD companies for putting out quite a lot of these films. I'm not really talking about the big films like Godfather and Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid. I'm talking about the smaller films of Pacino, De Niro, Redford, Hoffman, Beatty, Hackman, Nicholson, Newman and Brando. When are the following going to see the light of day?

Hi, Mom! - NOW ON DVD!!!
Greetings
The Fortune
Reds
Downhill Racer
1900
The Missouri Breaks
Cruising
The Great Waldo Pepper
Kaleidoscope
The Roman Spring of Mrs. Stone
Scarecrow
New York, New York
Author! Author!
Bobby Deerfield
Inside Daisy Clover
The Only Game in Town
Ishtar

and what about these other titles?

Howard the Duck
Rosencrantz and Guildenstern Are Dead

Saxon

I want:

License To Drive
The Naked Prey
The Silver Streak
Jekyll and Hyde...Together Again
Going Berserk

William Fuld 08-20-04 04:52 PM

Greetings is on dvd, but I doubt the quality is very good.

larry bender 08-20-04 04:57 PM

New York,New York is coming out as a second Scorsesse box set in december.

Fok 08-20-04 05:02 PM

Peter's Friends is one I wouldn't mind seeing either.

WarriorPrincess 08-20-04 07:28 PM

I vote for

License to Drive
Rosencrantz and Guildenstern are Dead
Eddie Murphy's Delirious

and Cry-Baby, even though it was released in 1990. :)

dstrauss 08-20-04 10:01 PM

DVD just hasn't arrived until "Night of the Comet" comes out on disc.

(Seriously, I'm also waiting for Sting's "Bring on the Night" also.)

Sonny 08-20-04 10:11 PM

Also
I Love You, Alice B. Toklas
You're A Big Boy Now

 That is the number one dvd i'm still waiting for. Also Howard the Duck and License to Drive.

gutwrencher 08-20-04 11:17 PM

my 2 top wish-list picks of all time...and STILL waiting for:

The Other..from '72
They All Laughed...also with John Ritter.

...and as usual...never even a hint that they may get here soon. my third choice arrived last week, The Bad Seed. there are over 75 essentials I'm still waiting for.

DickS 08-20-04 11:55 PM

I second THE OTHER and NAKED PREY.
Would also like THE INNOCENTS from Fox,
and BURN WITH BURN from MGM as a Midnight Movie DVD.
and BILLY BUDD from whomever currently owns the rights.
and SOLDIER BLUE in its uncut, widescreen version (rights?).
and FRIENDS OF EDDIE COYLE from Paramount.
There are more, but the list is narrowing in a huge way, and I thank all studios who release DVD's for that simple fact.

Ishtar

Definately Ishtar - this deserves Special Edition treatment, I can watch that movie over and over again. I'll also second Howard the Duck not a great movie but a great try...

sracer 08-21-04 12:26 AM

Absolutely, "The Other"! I'm a little tired of my VideoCD that I created from when AMC aired the film a while ago. Here's a few:

Blood on Satan's Claw
Day of the Triffids
Flesh Eaters
Lady in a Cage
Hush, Hush, Sweet Charlotte
Cabinet of Caligari (NOT to be confused with "The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari)
Bad Ronald
Crowhaven Farm
The Day Michael Came Home
Short Walk to Daylight

KPlummer 08-21-04 12:51 AM

How can you forget "Rad"?

Really? Do you happen to know which movies are gonna be in it? Maybe The King of Comedy and Raging Bull will finally get a decent DVD treatment.

Inside Daisy Clover
i'd like to see that too, but my most wanted Natalie Wood movie would be Love With The Proper Stranger ('60s Paramount)

been asking for it for 2 years now...maybe in 2005

most of the big 70s films i'm jonesing for are of the low budget/ exploitation variety, but there are still some A list titles that are curiously absent

Dirty Mary, Crazy Larry (Fox)
Let's Scare Jessica to Death (Paramount)
Love At First Bite (MGM)
Wanda Nevada (MGM)
StarCrash (New Concorde-Corman just put the catalog up for sale though, and the R2 disc is sadly of poor quality. was shocked to see my 2nd generation dupe of a pan and scan tape revealed finer detail and came from a much better print)
GoldenGirl (Columbia) ( a cinch i won't be seeing this one anytime soon since Columbia missed the opportunity to tie it in with the summer Olympics- suprisingly topical now too, with all the athletes testing positive for drugs and performance enhancers)
The Driver (Fox)
Butch & Sundance: The Early Days (Fox)

i would also love to see Outland get a true 16:9 remaster

not essential, but titles i still would buy-
Julia (Fox?)
An Unmarried Woman (Fox)
Thank God it's Friday (Columbia)
Almost Summer (Universal)
Corvette Summer (?)

digiboy 08-21-04 06:18 PM

I'd like to see:

The Little Girl Who lives down the Lane (Jodie Foster-Martin Sheen)
Charlie Varrick (Walter Matthau)
Straight Time (Dustin Hoffman-Theresa Russell)
Contract on Cherry street (TV movie w/ Frank Sinatra)
The Formula (Brando)
Hennessey (Steiger)

Definitely! I thought I was the only one here who wanted this on dvd. Oh and Warner now owns the rights.

Ace Hamilton 08-21-04 10:41 PM

Sign me up for Corvette Summer too! I remember seein it at a drive-in.

This may just be my favorite bad 70s movie that doesn't star William Shatner.
