Uneven playing surface on DVDs

Hi. Sometimes, I noticed that some disc have an "uneven" surface on the reading side.. Some areas looks darker than the other.. It sorta looks like the dye or whatever it was used wasn't spread over the entire disc surface.. Is this normally a concern? They seem to play fine..
Thanks
John

Yeah a few of my discs look like someone spilled something on it (like some sort of oil slick) but they seem to play fine.

It may indicate slight separation of the layers. Potential for future problems, although I've seen this several times and haven't had any problems yet.

I think the glue used to hold the layers together sometimes causes this.

Thanks for the replies. Has anyone had issues trying to return a disc like that to the place of purchase? I tried once and they refused it because they said it was common and had no affect on the perforance of the disc..
Thanks
John

An argument could be made that the store has every right not to take it back since it plays fine and there is no proof that it won't in the future. In other words, it's perfectly good merchandise. Unless you can find something from the manufacturer proving a slight discoloration is a defect, good luck to you on that.
