Vampyros Lesbos / She Killed In Ecstasy - New Image DVDs

I heard that Image is releasing Jess Franco's erotic lesbian vampire picture, Vampyros Lesbos, sometime in September or October. I have the OOP Synapse DVD. It's not anamorphic, so hopefully the new one will be. Has anyone else seen this film?

Quatermass 08-16-04 10:33 PM

I didn't know the Synapse one was OOP, but I have it and it's sequel "She Killed in Ecstasy". I used to have Vampyros Lesbos on VHS and there was some confusion as to which "cut" was used. Apparently there were different cuts of the film for Germany, Spain, France and the US. I didn't notice anything left out of or added to the DVD, but about 10 years had elapsed between viewings, so that doesn't surprise me. I don't think I'll double dip on the Image version just yet, since I don't currently have a 16X9 TV. If it's released as part of their Euroshock collection, it will eventually be under $10.

Edit: oops, wrong Franco film! Mke that She Killed in Ecstasy rather than Two Undercover Angels.

being a huge Franco fan....I already have both oop discs that are being re-released. She Killed In Ecstacy is a personal fave. I hear that the new, improved transfers are...stunning. yup...I'll be getting both.

Coolness... these are 2 movies I've been very very close to getting. In fact, I almost picked up She Killed in Ectasy last Saturday.

would it be safe to get the old versions 'She Killed Ecstasy' and 'Vampyros Lesbos'? they are only 9.99 on xploited cinema, or should I wait for the newer versions, any significant extras on the newer disc?

also how is the movie Nightmares Come at Night (?), I was thinking about order that.

Great new transfers? Nice colourful covers? Soledad Miranda? I'm getting these. :)

I would wait for the new ones. They'll be out soon, and I'm sure they'll look even better. Can't wait!

I was just checking Image's website...

Looks like Vampyros Lesbos and She Killed in Ecstasy are set for Oct 5th. Not positive but it looks like they'll be enhanced for widescreen.

cactusoly 09-19-04 09:53 PM

I never heard of these ... but they look interesting

asianxcore 09-19-04 10:09 PM

has anyone found any specs, regarding extras?

I bought that one as a blind buy. It was alright for a Franco film. Very dreamlike. But don't go expecting lots of Soledad...sure they put her picture on the cover bright as day, but it was only so schmucks like me will fall for it and pick it up without a second thought. She's in only two scenes in the movie that last a total of about 3 minutes (and the scenes weren't even intended for that movie, as you can tell they seem really out of place). But you do get a decent interview with Franco where he talks about Soledad Miranda and they show some nice stills of her. If you want more Soledad, better to pick up The Devil Came from Akasawa.

I personally would like to have versions of her movies in Spanish to hopefully hear her actual voice. If an audio track like that actually exists, that would be the coolest reason to buy these movies again.

That cover art is hideous. Whats with the stupid Austin Powers lettering?

I love this movie's soundtrack! If you like moody synths and wawa guitare, go for it. It's a real buffet of Moog craziness.

Any word on the She Killed in Ecstasy disc? I've already seen a review of the Vampyros disc, and most e-tailers are listing it as ready to be shipped, but I can't find anything on Ecstasy.

Anybody find these in any stores anywhere? With everything I bought yesterday, I went practically everywhere in Austin, and nobody had them in stock.

gutwrencher 10-06-04 05:05 PM

nope....I checked just for kicks, but nothing. mine should arrive tomorrow or Friday. didn't think they be around here locally on release day....so on-line I went.
