Terminator 2: UE 1 disc version?

Is the Terminator 2 Ultimate Edition double sided 1-disc version the same as the 2-disc version content wise? Why did they switch to pressing 2-discs instead of 1?

typecase 08-16-04 04:54 PM

They pressed both, and yes, they were both the same. One is a DVD-18 and the other two DVD-9s. At the time, it was one of the first discs to be pressed as a DVD-18, however, due to the newness, there were some replication problems so DVD-9s were also pressed to meet demand. On release day, both were available. I hope this helps.

My T2-UE has a bad 2nd disc. Well, it plays for the most part, but during the "Making of the Terminator 3-D ride" it digitizes and freezes up about, oh 2/3rds the way through. The rest of the featurettes, it plays fine.

Another reason they switched was because they found that the cost of producing 2 DVD-9 discs was cheaper than 1 DVD-18

I have an unopened copy of T2: UE, how can I tell which version I have?

The onsert at the back should tell you. Otherwise, shake the DVD and hear if there is a middle tray rattling inside. Practice and hear the rattling sound of a 1-disc case and a double disc case :p

Don't the two disc sets have cardboard slipcovers and double alpha cases instead of the metal case?

Not exactly; the initial release was *both* one-disc (flipper) and two-disc, so there should be versions of both with the metal case (though I could be wrong). However, all versions with the cardboard slipcovers should be the two disc. And, assumably, anything in a double-alpha case would be the two-disc.

Maybe he was thinking about hanging on to a sealed copy.

Alan Smithee 08-18-04 03:56 PM

There should be a paper in the sealed package on the back of the case, and on the top it will say either "Over 6 Hours Of Content On 1 DVD" or "On 2 DVD-9's", and on the front there's a sticker on the shrinkwrap that says the same thing.
