2-disc Dr. Strangelove in the works

digitalbits is reporting Columbia is working on a new 2-disc set 40th Anniversary Edition of Dr. Strangelove. No word yet what's on it. And also Warner is working on a 2-disc 2001: A Space Odyssey. So good news for Kubrick fans!

Adrenaline 08-14-04 11:01 PM

Now all we need is a 2 disc FMJ

manicsounds 08-14-04 11:02 PM

$34.95 with DTS and Dolby 5.1 tracks,
coming out one month after the Superbit version.
No word on anything else.

whotony 08-14-04 11:02 PM

i thought i saw that a superbit version is also already announced.

nemein 08-14-04 11:22 PM

dvdpricesearch has a listing for it but so far only buy.com is listed http://www.buy.com//retail/product.a...246&dcaid=1688 (I have few stores filtered out though so others may actually have it too)

bsktballDude1 08-15-04 12:07 AM

Maybe I'll finally pick this movie up, with this 2-disc.

LasVegasMichael 08-15-04 12:18 AM

This is a no-brainer double dip for me. Definately one of the best films of all time.

Less of a no-brainer since it's a triple dip for me.

Somehow I never seemed to pick this one up on DVD, so it's a new-dip for me! (well, ok - double-dip if you consider that I bought it on VHS years ago!)

2005 will mark the 25th Anniversary of another Kubrick film - The Shining. Think they'll do something with that, or wait until the 30th Annniversary?

Can't wait for Dr. Strangelove. Loved it right from the get-go.

WillieTheShakes 08-15-04 12:14 PM

The Shining came out in 1970?

dom56 08-15-04 12:41 PM

I be getting the 2-disc 2001: A Space Odyssey. I'm quite content with my current 1-disc Dr. Strangelove.

It came out in 1980, so a 25th Anniversary would be more appropiate.

ENDContra 08-15-04 01:53 PM

The Shining was released in 1980, next year will be the 25th anniversary.

The only thing about the 2-disc releases is that they will be in keep cases, which is a good thing, but I couldnt just replace the ones in the Kubrick set as they wouldnt fit in the box (unless I got rid of Life in Pictures

emhello 08-15-04 03:06 PM

Maybe we'll get the widescreen version of the Shining finally (even though Kubrik wanted fullscreen)?

PalmerJoss 08-15-04 03:20 PM

ANOTHER special edition for Dr. Strangelove? This would be my third time purchasing this, and my third time buying 2001. Enough is enough, seriously! I think I might just pass on these on principle alone.

Dazed 08-15-04 03:23 PM

I havent gotten Dr Strangelove, 2001 or Shining so may finally pick up the Special Editions when they are released.

angryyoungman 08-15-04 03:29 PM

I'd be interested to know what's on the 2-disc Dr. Strangelove, but the current special edition is pretty good as is.

Comfort Eagle 08-15-04 04:14 PM

Nice, still havent picked up the first version, so i guess i can wait longer.

Zenigata 08-15-04 04:31 PM

Likewise. Held off due to TCM's occasional showings. Glad I did.

TomOpus 08-15-04 05:21 PM

That's it... no more purchases until the inevitable 2-disc set comes out :D

Wait, I'm confused; I thought the Superbit was going to be a two-disc with exclusive/new extras ... now there's going to be a seperate two-disc right after it?

ARGH!!!!!

Ah well, keep us all posted as to what will be on these new discs, so that we can purchase informedly.

milkdog 08-15-04 07:52 PM

I can't wait for the 3 disc set in 2006. WOO-HOO!!!
