Candian v. US Differences
Ill start off this with the statement that I did not due a search for a similar topic, so if this is a repost Ill gladly read the appropriate thread and delete this posting.
Now I just ordered two (2) disks from Amazon.ca and am wondering if the packaging is identical to what the states will receive. You cant tell via the item's webpage. If anyone could shed some light on this it would be greatly appreciated. I went with Amazon.ca because I save almost $15 (even with shipping) and they were released a month earlier than the states. Thanks in advance for the assist. |
Don't know for sure, but it should be pretty much identical. The big difference with American vs. Canadian DVDs is that a lot of Canadian DVDs now have bilingual French and English packaging. (Which I hate, and refuse to buy, but that's another thread entirely.) There's French packaging if the DVD has a French track, but since this is a concert, that shouldn't be a problem...
Hope this helps! |
The Canadian releases of Irreversible(had commentary) and Trainspotting(was uncut international version) were better than the US releases, although the new Trainspotting is obviously better.

Thanks for the info, I thought I was 'safe' since the only language track advertised is English.
But I do agree with you about the not wanting to purchase bilingual packaging. Uniformity is a good thing. |
The Canadian version of Good Will Hunting is 16:9, the US one is not.
|
There are extra commentaries on Existenz in the Canadian release. I know that there are a couple of other special releases. I would check the International Forum.

The Pianist had a lot more features then the US version, better cover and some tracks from the soundtrack in surround.
Also, to the best of my knowledge, you can't get Lost Highway in the US (although our version is foolscreen only). |

From what I have heard, the only decent looking DVD of Lost Highway (and in widescreen) is in Germany. But you would need an all-region player for that.
The thing about The Pianist DVD (at least the extra features) from Canada that annoyed me is that there were forced French subtitles on the extra features. I know that it is a small gripe, especially considering how slim the features were for the U.S. version, but it still got on my nerves when trying to watch them. Unfortunately, I am ashamed to admit that I haven't watched the feature on DVD, just the extra features. I had seen it The Pianist in the theater and just haven't been in the mood to see it since I bought it. So I cannot comment on the transfer. |
