New Company Offers to Exchange your VHS tapes for DVDs...

A new company called Entitle recently unveiled a service in which customers can replace a damaged disc or even upgrade their VHS movies to DVD versions at half price. Not only that, but they also plan to offer upgrades from cassette tapes to music CDs as well as offer replacements for video games. They will send you a postage-paid envelope for you to send your damaged item or VHS tape you wish to upgrade and then get your replacement through entitle.com and half the price.

They have set up offices in California and are currently scheduling meetings with independent suppliers and music and video game companies. Currently, they don't really have much to offer, but they plan to target major studios as well. As of right now, it's fairly useless as the only companies they have signed are a karaoke publisher and some mormon-themed movie company - it is worth keeping your eye on though in the coming months. This could possibly end up being a good way to rid ourselves of any VHS tapes we haven't gotten rid of yet... I have 4 apple boxes full of em and haven't really felt like selling them all for a dollar on half.com.

Anyway - check it out - www.entitle.com - could end up either being crap or really cool.

Very cool idea... But I just can't see major studios signing on.

Well, from what I've read - they seem to have a fairly solid business model that major studios might go for. For the publisher, it's an "incremental sale." We'll see... I'm a bit skeptical as well, but it's at least worth watching.

I don't think this would be a very good deal. If they are charging you half of the MSRP, what is the point. You can easily find new replacements for less than the MSRP, and then ebay your old copy. It might be good for replacing damaged discs. Especially if you can replace one disc in a box set without buying the whole set.

Yeah - that's another concern of course... price. There's no real way to gague if their prices are going to be fair yet since their only titles are some obscure mormon videos. We'll see.
