Although it's not a movie, Family Guy did poorly in the TV ratings, but now it's the best selling TV DVD.

I discovered both Shawshank and Austin Powers on DVD. Where both really found their audience on home video. Office Space and Half Baked were also big home video cult classics.

I have a feeling Jersey Girl like Mallrats will be another example of this as Kevin Smith said in his interview. All of Smith's films have found their audience on home video.
