Possibility of Eureka on R1 DVD
Ever since Shooting Gallery Pictures went under, I've been pining and languishing for a region one edition of Shinji Aoyama's Eureka - that simple desire has now turned into desperation tinged with obsession. At this rate, I'll do anything to own that great film.
So does anyone have any information regarding a potential release of this film on R1? I'd be happy with a Fox Lorber quickie release, even! |
Why not buy a code-free player ( like the ones here, then you can import the disc from anywhere in the world. Lots of people here have done this, and swear by it.

dynamiteovaries, I usually try and restrain myself from asking why film lovers confine their choices to R1, but since you (1) specifically mentioned that you've been pining and laguishing for this film, and (2) are clearly aware that there are non-R1 options, I feel compelled to ask, why don't you just make the leap to region-free?

Not everyone can afford a new DVD player (not to mention $50 DVDs) on a whim. Some of us have bills to pay. :(

From what I gather, however, the R3 is pretty crap bad and hardly worth the money spent on it. From all viable sources, the Japanese R2 would be the way to go.

I haven't seen the R3 so I can't comment, but I presume it is equal to or better than the comparably priced Artificial Eye R2 release which I have seen images from. (Link to comparison) Clearly the Japanese R2 is superior, but I doubt the R3 would be any worse than the quickie Fox Lober release that you stated you'd be happy with in your initial post.

I just got around to watching the R3 of Eureka and I can attest it is definitely not crap. This is an incredible film, and the quality of the R3 disc doesn't detract from it at all: perfect subtitles, and better than average picture quality -- best $12.99 I've spent all year!

The R3 Eureka has better images than the R2 Artificial Eye version. But if you want the best, get the overpriced Japanese version instead... The chance of this coming to R1 is next to nil.
