Leon: The Professional 10th Anniversary Release
Super news! I was reading an article about Natalie Portman in Time Out London and she said she recorded a commentary for the 10th anniversary release of Leon The Professional. Whoohoo! Hopefully this release will feature some other extras. The Internation Uncut version, that many of us own, is lacking in that department. Supposedly the American release will hit shelves later this year. Although I haven't heard anything about it. I checked amazon.com to see if it was advertised there, but alas it was not. Soon enough some details of one of my favorite films will be unveiled. I for one can't wait!

finally, hopefully a new transfer and corrected dts track are in store as well.
Man, another double dip...
Well this is one double dip I'll gladly make! And if they port all the features from the current DVD (isolated score, etc.), then I'll just give my old copy to a friend.
Would this be the 4th version of the film now?
Regardless, I'll be picking it up. |
I'm glad I picked up Leon at a used DVD place.
I love the film but unless the visuals/sound are improved I wont be double dipping just for a commentary track and a few extras.
I understand why many won't be double dipping, but I'm planning on picking it up for sure. I love interesting commentary tracks and I would only assume Portman's would be just that. I think I'll just sell or trade the version I have now a few months or weeks before the 10th Anniversary is released.

guess that makes me king of the triple-dipster.
Lets just hope they don't F-up the sound (yet again).
I second that...
I am very happy with the current version of Leon...and will not be picking this up...

is this going to be the uncut version as well? or the american version?
Geez, how many times is Columbia going to make us rebuy their movies? I wish they would do it right for the first time. I guess I will be double dipping on this one.
I would only assume they would release the uncut version. Damn it, if they don't that would be a tragedy. Unlike other "uncut" versions of other films, at least with Leon the added 20 minutes is 1) actually worth quoting it as "uncut." It's not a few minutes added on to lengthen sex scenes or what have you and 2) although the lolita-ish relationship is evident it is merely flushed out or exposed literally in the extended cut.

Umm, forgive me if I'm wrong, but I'm pretty sure that the international version isn't "uncut". The way I understand it, the US theatrical cut is Besson's preferred version, and Leon was put together sort of as a gift to his fans. I, for one, think I prefer the theatrical cut, with its more ambiguous relationship. If the theatrical cut is in fact getting a re-release -- with improved picture and sound -- I'll pick that up. A commentary on Leon will certainly be tempting, cuz I'm such a sucker.
I feel bad for the suckers who bought the superbit edition.
I'll read the reviews first, and if the Portman commentary is highly regarded, I'll buy this new version. If the commentary is boring, then I'll keep the current version.
You could be right about the "uncut" version not being actually uncut. I was merely under that impression. so sorry if I am wrong. Hopefully Nat Portman's commentary will be "lively." She seems like a lively, fun person in interviews, although there is the talk show host to play off of. Perhaps it'll be a commentary with Jean Reno & Portman, that would rock.
I was getting ready to buy the current version, so I may just wait now.
No double dip.
I don't care for double dipping, but with a Portman commentary track they managed to sucker me in.
