haven't seen any reviews yet, but you can check out the Comic-Con appearance of the Coreys˛, where they talk about the new SE. Sort of.

Rolling Stone gave it 3 stars:

"People are strange in murder-capital Santa Clara, California. New kid in town Sam (Corey Haim) meets the Frog Brothers at a comic-book store, and his brother Michael (Jason Patric) is lured by vampire vixen Star (Jami Gertz) into drinking blood. Kiefer Sutherland as the Doors-loving undead David elevates the hot fangfest of 1987 into an all-time horror-comedy classic. After all, what?s scarier than the Rob Lowe poster on Haim?s closet? Corey Feldman rocking a bandanna with a mullet. "

Thanks for the link stinkeye. I am excited for this release because I love this movie, but was a little afraid the disc wouldn't be great. The first one was really bad. It is great to read a good review of the disc.

Good to SEE a review, but that's a horrible review.

Doesn't Bracke ever get out of the house?

Terrell 08-04-04 11:07 AM

Sounds like from DVDFiles review, that the studio once again cared so little about restoring the transfer and DD track, that it's not as big an improvement as I'd hope. I wish some of these studios would get their head out of their ass and restore films like this to their absolute max. Send the thing over the Lowry and let them do. Remaster a new DD EX track, or send it over to Skywalker Sound and let them do.

Probably just so fickle they don't want to spend any money.

That's Bracke for you.

Oh man, I can't wait for this DVD!
I love this movie, and it was a big part of my childhood, and the extras seem great, just great.

I have a question, though: Is there any difference in quality or extras between the R1 version and the R2 version?

I must disagree with them. I picked this up yesterday and I must say the transfer is absolutley beautiful. I have never seen this film look this good. The previous release was adequite, but this new transfer looks phenominal. The extra disc chock full of extras is worth the price of admission alone. I think they did a bang up job on this and WB should be commended. Toss out that old release, because it doesn't hold a candle to this new 2-disc SE. Just my 2 cents of course.

just found an early copy at Big K and the transfer looks good. I just popped it in for a quick peek and will give everything a complete viddey later tonight.

stinkeye 08-09-04 03:11 PM

Now its been a long time since I have seen this movie, but if I recall correctly wasn't it in Santa Cruz and not Santa Clara?

Actually, it is Santa Carla in the movie, which is an offshoot of Santa Clara, to which again the boardwalk is supposed to be Santa Cruz. Guess Schumaker and Donner didn't want to label an actual city "The murder capital of the world".

fumanstan 08-09-04 08:30 PM

Yup, when i went to school at UCSC people always mentioned how the Lost Boys was filmed there on the Boardwalk :)

Looks like I'll have to upgrade. For such a classic, it's well worth it...

Robert George 08-10-04 12:29 PM

My copy arrived yesterday. I find Warner's new transfer superior on all counts. Very clean, very crisp, exceptional detail and color balance. I have seen any number of transfers of brand new movies that don't look this good. Considering the film elements are now something like 17 years old, this transfer rates an "A+". Reference quality for an older title.
