Spiderman & X-men 1990's cartoon series on DVD?
Anyone know or hear rumours whether these sets will ever be offically released in complete full season sets much like the 1967 Spider-man series. Ebay is littered with these in homemade versions. I'm thinking of pulling the trigger, but just wanted to check if anyone knew if these were in the pipeline. I know some X-men story-lines (Phoenix) were released a few years ago as are some of the Spider-man storylines (Goblin, Venom in Dec., etc) ae being released now.

You've pretty much summed it up, there's no real news right now. But Marvel is currently suing Disney because they haven't received payments from their releases. If Marvel wins, maybe they'll get the cartoons back and be able to release them in season sets.
Or maybe it will tie up the rights for years and we won't see any releases at all. |
Thanks Majorjoe,
I had no idea about the lawsuit, but that doesn't make it sound promising. |
Well it seems lots of people want Spiderman as this question is coming up a few times a week.
Too bad for Disney. |
I saw this petition on superherohype.com, but I don't think it will help at all. Just passing it on in hope, though.

I would kill for an X-men DVD set..
|
I'd kill for both series on DVD.
X-Men had 5 seasons. The first two had 13 episodes each, so I could see a Season 1 and 2 box set. Season 3 had 19 episodes, Season 4 with 17, and Season 5 with 14. For a total of 76 episodes. Or three volumes of 25(6) episodes each similar to the Batman: TAS sets. Spider-Man had 65 episodes, which would translate to 3 volumes of 21(2) episodes each. However due to the season long arcs from Seasons 2-4, breaking them up would be a bit distracting. |
OK, here's something weird. I was in Media Play yesterday and came across at least 4 SPIDER-MAN DVDs. Each contained 2 episodes from the 1994 animated series. I bought the one entitled "SPIDER-MAN: Blade, the Vampire Hunter". It contained episodes "Neogenic Nightmare Chapter 9: Blade the Vampire Hunter" and "Neogenic Nightmare Chapter 10: The Immortal Vampire". The other three titles were "Kraven the Hunter", "Green Goblin" and "Hobgoblin". The only studio marking on the discs is Marvel Films. The DVDs have no menu and the A/V quality is OK, but not as good as the Buena Vista discs. This may be an option for those looking to add more episodes to their collection.

Did anyone see Pryde Of The X-Men? Has it been released on DVD?
I rented the video when I was a kid and had the graphic novel too (heaven knows where it's at now). Wolverine's cheesy Australian accent aside, I'd like to have that purely for childhood nostalgia. Someone brought up the Fantasic Four; I imagine a release of some sort would happen close to when the movie hits next summer. For the Marvel Action Hour series from the 90's, individual releases ala Spider-Man would work. For the Hanna Barbera series, a complete series box would be cool. |
