MGM or Anchor Bay's Take the Money and Run

Boy am I stupid. I've had Anchor Bay's Take the Money and Run DVD forever. It contains both the non anamorphic widescreen and full screen versions. I saw that MGM rereleased it under their namesake. So I sold the Anchor Bay and bought the MGM. If for nothing else, to match all the other MGM Woody Allen movies I have. When I received the DVD, Full Frame ONLY. WTF?! Are you kidding me? Should I rebuy the Anchor Bay version?

Well that's really something you'll have to decide. Personally I'd prefer the disc with the widescreen version. What you could do is pick it up and keep it in the MGM packaging to give you the matching look you were going for.

Good luck finding the Anchor Bay version--it's OOP. Be prepared to pay quite a bit for it!

Man, I'm glad I kept mine! I was thinking the same thing - sell the AB version and get MGMs. runners - are you a fan of the movie? I always used to watch this when it would come on channel 11 in NYC when I was younger - I love it!

Yeah the Anchor Bay version is very hard to find now. You'll have to buy it on ebay most likely.

be forewarned also, there are (or were) a lot of Asian bootlegs of it floating around on E-bay. This tends to happen with any disc that regularly sells for more than $25.

If it makes any difference, I read that it's open matte, and if so, it's not cropped.
Thats way better than pan-n-scan.

i just bought this in the DDD sale and didn't realize it wasn't widescreen.

Is it really open matte and not pan n scam?

I sold my Anchor Bay version last year for 70 bucks. Don't know how much it's going for now.
