looks like it's time to ditch the one i have. i am glad to hear that the documentary is to be included. i remeber watching it on tbs for the 50th ann. and i really enjoyed it.

I've been waiting for this one...

I am exctied about the news on this release, I finally watched the film on TCM a couple of months ago and I loved the film and it totally lived up to the acclaim, glory and the classic status the film beholds to this day.

According to DavisDVD, the film will be on two discs.

Gone With The Wind is a Selznick International Picture not an MGM classic as quoted above. MGM got to release the film in exchange for loaning Clark Gable to producer David O Selznick.
MGM became the owner of the film when Selznick International was dissolved in the 40's.

Wasn't GWTW originally done in full screen. I thought all films were done like that up until a certain year. As long as it is the originial dimensions I am fine with it.

I've also been putting off buying this one. Soon the wait will be over. Thanks to Warner on doing this one up nicely.

pre 1954 there were only a couple of 'widescreen' films (the Big Trail in the 30s, was one, iirc).

Warner adds extras to new 'Gone' disc

Warner Home Video will release the latest special edition of "Gone With the Wind" on Nov. 9.



The four-disc set features five hours of old and new documentaries, interviews and other bonus features new to DVD.

Pic has been through yet another digital restoration, this time via Warner's "Ultra-Resolution" process used on recent DVDs of "Singin' in the Rain," "The Adventures of Robin Hood" and "Meet Me in St. Louis."

Among the bonus features is a 17-minute featurette on the restoration process and the critically acclaimed 1989 two-hour "The Making of a Legend" docu, which was sold separately from all previous VHS, DVD and laserdisc versions of "GWTW" that have been on the market since 1985.

All incarnations of "GWTW" held a high collector's price until the VHS was finally repriced in 1999, timed with the first and only previous DVD release, which offers almost no bonus features.

About 8.5 million copies of all homevideo versions of the movie have been sold to date.

The new "Gone With the Wind Four-Disc Collector's Edition" includes a rare recent interview with 88-year-old "GWTW" star Olivia de Havilland that is part of a new 45-minute program called "Melanie Remembers: Olivia de Havilland Recalls 'Gone with the Wind.' " Other bonus features include a new full-length audio commentary by film historian Rudy Behlmer; a 66-minute doc on Clark Gable; and a 45-minute doc on Vivien Leigh.

Warner recruited Christopher Plummer, who narrated the "Making of a Legend" docu 15 years ago, to narrate and introduce many of the bonus features on the new DVD.

Also included with each set is a full-color reproduction of the original 22-page souvenir booklet sold during premiere roadshow engagements from 1939-41.

Wow, I'm not a big fan of GWTW, but it certainly looks like a keeper.

How much will they be charge this 4-disc set for?

retail is $40 so one would figure that amazon would have for around $25 with STL taking into account minimum 30% off.

I wonder if that Vivien Leigh documentary would be the one that came on TNT 14 years ago and was hosted by Jessica Lange. It was pretty good, and I've kept it recorded all of these years. I think it was called Vivien Leigh: Scarlett and Beyond.

This set is going to rock my socks. The wait has been worth it.
