Need help : closed captions
 

Hi

As an European dvd fan I´m ready to buy a Closed Captions decoder to access to subtitles ( I need subtitles for a better understanding and there are titles only with CC subs ).

Regarding the closed captions subtitles can anyone tell me
the following:


Are the closed captions placed at the bottom of the frame as regular subtitles regardless of who's saying what ?

or

Are the closed captions placed directly below the person who is speaking (sometimes in the center of the image)?

It depends on the title- most are at the bottom of the screen, positioned under the person who is speaking. If there's text or any other important info in the scene, the captions appear on the top so the bottom isn't blocked. They've traditionally been done in all caps, but I've noticed newer titles are using lower-cased letters.

Reviving this thread because I can't find my answer through search.

I can't figure this CC thing out. Do I really need a decoder? When I use my laptop with WinDVD I can get the captions. But with my Malata 520 & Infocus X1 I can't figure out how to display them. I am finding more DVDs without Subs but with CC.

I think that WinDVD has a built-in closed caption decoder. If you're using a hardware player, you need a decoder.
