If you were a true fan, you would've bought the movies when they were new releases :P
Do any other TV series sets include the movie(s) that inspired them? I don't think either of the Night flicks were meant to be pilots for a series.

And why do you have to be a fan to want the movies with the set? People aren't allowed to make blind purchases?

btw, they did "knock off" money since the pilots were not needed in the set. That's why is only $40 msrp, which means you'll be able to get it for about $30.

Would Kolchak be a good blind buy? Has it aged well?

Even though I never watched it before, I think I will pick this up blind. I will probably wait, though, to see if the episodes contain syndication edits or the original broadcast versions.

The tapes Universal made for CH were uncut. Universal will most likely use the same masters. Four episodes were never syndicated but spliced into two movies. The syndication package included 16 eps. and the 2 movies. That is why you never see those 4 on sci-fi channel. The CH set had all 20 eps. uncut as they originally aired.

Thanks for the info, rw2516! Looks good for being non-syndicated copies.
Calhoun07, am I right in thinking you live in Portland? You can get the 2 TV movies disc at any Fred meyer for $9.99, and since it's an MGM DVD, it's often on sale or you can get it as part of a 3 for 2 type sale they seem to have on MGM DVDs quite a bit. The movies are a good litmus test for the series. While darker and less comedic; they give a great intro to the character of Kolchak and style of the show. The movies will either leave you wanting more or squelch any plans for getting the series.
Is it October 4th, yet?!?!

Has anyone actually been able to find this in a store?
None of the Best Buys in the Los Angeles area seem to have gotten it in, and my local mom-and-pop store that gets *every* new release didn't get it either (though they had ordered it). Tower Records claimed to have gotten it in, but I didn't bother stopping by because they were charging full retail for it. (I have my doubts they even had it, given that they only looked on the computer and not on the shelf.)
So has anyone actually bought this in a brick-and-mortar store?

My local Best Buy had about 5 copies on the shelf on Tuesday for $35, but I decided to wait and see if I could find it cheaper at Wal-Mart or Sam's. Unfortunately, I haven't seen it anywhere else, though.

I got this and was impressed with how good the eps looked. With the blues, reds, and greens popping out of the screen. Just watch "The Ripper" or the end of "Zombie" and you'll see what I mean. What I can't figure out is the way the put the shows on this set. They have 20 eps and put four on each side. BUT on the last disc, they put four on one side of the DVD 18 and the other side is blank!
