Errol Morris Boxset

I just emailed IFC about the possibility of them releasing Errol Morris TV show "First Person" onto DVD, not too much success on that front, but they did say:

"Thanks for contacting IFC. The Boxed Set of Errol Morris: The Thin Blue Line, Vernon, FL and Gates of Heaven will be released on MGM Home Video in November 2004. Errol Morris’ series “First Person” is not currently airing on the network and is not yet available for purchase. Again, thanks for your interest in IFC."

That sounds like a pretty excellent boxset of a bunch of rare on VHS, never on DVD pix. Anybody else hear about this set? Like details?

The Thin Blue Line!!! Yes!!!

Fantastic! I'll combine it with my "Mr. Death","The Fog of War", and "Fast, Cheap & Out of Control". I've never seen "Gates of Heaven". Roger Ebert has it on his list of 5 best films ever made.

How did I miss this? This is unbelievably great news. Thin Blue Line is incredible and Gates of Heaven is a masterpiece. I don't believe I've seen Vernon, FL. Definitely getting this!

Does this mean that it will be released on DVD or are they making a box set out of VCR tapes?

drjay 07-08-04 01:47 PM

I doubt they would be releasing only VHS tapes. MGM Home Video merely refers to MGM's dividion which releases video (whether it be VHS or DVD or any other format). I'm sure it will be on DVD.

Just what I've been waiting for!

Vernon, FL is great ... it's really pretty lighthearted compared to most of his other stuff. Here's a link.

"That's a pretty good price for a possum, don't you know"

One thing that I wish someone could secure DVD rights to is the short film that he made for the 2002 Academy Awards broadcast ... I didn't tape that one, but his filming of people talking about their favorite films was characteristically brilliant and I wish I could see it again.

Am I the only one that thinks the Academy is missing out by not posting this sort of thing on their web site? I'd love to see all of the Billy Crystal parodies, tributes, and things like that. Seems like a no-brainer to me, but they refuse to do it.

I've heard it will be released in February.

RichDB10 10-19-04 03:19 AM

Thanks for that FilmFanSea

Looking forward to this release. Haven't seen Gates of Heaven but love the other two films (and Morris' other films). I think the ending to Vernon, FL. is just so fitting. Had a friend that used to rent the movie all the time.

bump for any news on a February release date ?

h8red 02-15-05 05:29 AM

Ttt

Gil Jawetz 02-15-05 06:32 AM

Hmmm...

auto 02-15-05 11:38 AM

I am also eagerly awaiting this box. Any updates?

FilmFanSea 02-15-05 12:30 PM

ErrolMorris.com is now saying "Summer 2005." It also appears that Morris' TV series, First Person will see a DVD release at the same time (which may be the reason for the delay).

Thanks!
