New Candyman is coming in August
The folks at Davis DVD are reporting that a new Candyman DVD is coming in August (with a commentary). What a great flick! The cover looks kind of questionable but oh well, it's still a kick-ass movie.

Worst. Cover. Ever.

One of the scarier flicks I've seen. The scene with the littel kid in bathroom outside the projects freaks me out every time.
Any other specs on this? I'll upgrade if it's got a DD5.1 track.

Yeah, i was watchin it again on TV last night and will upgrade my copy since I only paid $5.99 for it. This one should be better no matter what. Cover is easily replaced with a custom one.

IMO, the cover wouldn't be so bad if they removed Tony Todd and brought the hook a little bit more to the front. Anyway, glad to hear a SE is coming out... Any specs?

Specs are as follows:
"The disc will feature a 1.85 anamorphic transfer, DD 2.0 Surround sound, an audio commentary track with director Bernard Rose, the all-new "Sweets to the Sweet: The Candyman Mythos" featurette (featuring interviews with Rose, Clive Barker, actors Tony Todd, Virginia Madsen and Kasi Lemmons), "Clive Barker: Raising Hell" featurette, original storyboards and bonus trailers."
I'll be double dipping on this regardless of the atrocious Coverart and lack of a remastered 5.1 track.

You know, I had to concentrate to figure out that was a hook in the background. Looks like some kind of curled worm to me. Horrid cover
But one of the best horror movies ever. Definitely picking this one up.

Saw this in the theater when it came out, probably my favorite Clive Barker movie so far and have been waiting for a "better version" on DVD for a while now before I plonked down the cash for it. Remembering the great sound design of the hook ripping through flesh still gives me the willies. Nice score from Philip Glass to boot !!!

DD 2.0 Surround sound MORONS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
barley no special features and no good sound, pointless buying it, and the covers crap. Stick with the old one which is almost free.

"Be my Victim..."
Those words have always given me the chills when I think of Candyman.
I've waited a while for the SE. The cover does blow and it's sad that they couldn't remaster the sound (maybe if we're lucky, Sony'll have a change of heart and fix it up), but I'll still get it because I love Candyman. Such a great scary movie.

i actually dont want this. but ill still get it. i borrowed this movie from my neighbors house when i was very very young. i watched it at night when my parents weren't around me, same with boogie nights. nightmares for a week. (no not from boggie nights) that scene with the little boy with his stomach split open in the bathroom screaming for his mother was easily the most disturbing thing i have ever seen in my life

So far this looks like a Gneral Columbia SE reissue; take the original DVD, change nothing as far as picture and sound, and release with new material. That's actually pretty adequate in most cases, but...
... is this a new transfer? The one of the last DVD was ugly and lacked detail.
... is that a misprint, or a misquote, as far as the sound goes? Really, even Groundhog Day got a remastered 5.1 track in addition to the original sound; the remastered sound on GD sounds MUCH clearer.
... and I kinda dig the cover. Reminds of the graffitti from Cabrini.

C'mon the Dolby surround 2.0 track is great and very atmospheric and effective.
Those saying the film scared the crap out of you when released and some scenes disturbed you...saw it with stereo surround sound.
So what makes you think the 5.1 will make it 'better',when it is already very effective?
A stupid reason not to get a dvd. That is just as absurd as not buying a dvd because it has mono audio, which is the original audio.
We don't need 5.1 on every film...unless the film was originally made in 5.1

I will get it for the commentary, clive barker docu, and other stuff. I dont care about the sound, it will be loud enough. Its not like a war movie or sci fi where it needs good 5.1

After spending $2000 on my dual SVS subs I would have liked to seen a LFE channel. Dolby Pro Logic II doesn't cut it as DD 5.1 or DTS.
Seeing as I have held off on buying the original in hopes of a new transfer may have paid off, but I may look International for a decent DVD release for this movie.
