I'm a comic book fan, but as a movie fan, this was just terrible. Holes in the plot you could fill with quite a few bodies. I think quite a few scenes hit the cutting room floor. Plus, after the sombre opening, its just hard to find the one liners funny.

Huge plot holes and unfunny one liners are the hallmarks of great cheesy 80's style action flicks.

You kidding? There's been DVD covers posted for films that are still in their primary run in theaters.

Lion's Gate will definately double-dip.
Gale Ann Hurd told me personally that 2 DVD releases are planned for the movie. First a regular release followed by a more elaborate release later on.

I watched Punisher and Kill Bill Volume 2 on the same weekend. I have to admit I was more entertained with Punisher. This will definitely be a dvd purchase for me.

from http://www.davisdvd.com/news/daily_news.html

Another revenge tale, The Punisher arrives onto DVD on September 7th from Lions Gate Home Entertainment. Starring Thomas Jane as the perpetually pissed-off Frank Castle, the disc will feature a 2.35 anamorphic transfer, along with DD 5.1 and DTS Surround tracks. Extras on tap include the "War Journal: On the Set of The Punisher" making-of featurette, "Army of One" character history featurette (with an interview with comic writer Garth Ennis), "Drawing Blood" artwork featurette (interview with artist Tim Bradstreet), "Keepin' It Real" stunt featurette and a selection of theatrical trailers. Retail will be $27.98.

I like the picture of Thomas Jane but why did they slap on the ugly Travolta head right there?

These are the specs listed on DVDAnswers:

Retail will be set at $27.98. As well as an anamorphic widescreen presentation and English Dolby Digital 5.1 track, the disc will include a War Journal: On the Set of The Punisher featurette on the making of the film, an Army of One featurette which outlines the character's place within the Marvel Comic Universe and includes an interview with Garth Ennis and a Drawing Blood feature which includes an interview with artist Tim Bradstreet that includes a showcase of his art for The Punisher. Completing the package will be a Keepin It Real featurette that includes an in-depth look at the film's stunt work and a selection of deleted scenes.

So what's the deal here, the specs from DVDAnswers and DavisDVD don't match up. One says "DTS" the other doesn't. One says 'trailers' the other doesn't.

Also, we heard earlier that a comic book will be included, but that's not listed in either spec sheet.

I loved this movie! Thought it was alot of fun. At the time I thought Punisher was better than Hellboy....but after watching Hellboy a few times it really really grew on me.

My only disappointment is the cover. Just terrible looking.

The commercials for this DVD say that a comic book comes with the purchase. I heard that it's only for a limited time only, but does this mean that every store that sells the disc will have a comic?

I'd say that means the initial print run of this disc will have it. Any reprintings won't.
