I remember the laser disc had a really good commentary by Barry Sonnenfeld, I'd like to have that included on a DVD.

At least I remember it being really good, it was the first commentary track I ever listened to.

It'd be nice. They had a commentary and deleted scenes that were on the laser disc, but were left off the DVD...

Thanks for the suggestion, think I will go watch my Get Shorty LD.

Edited to add:

Well, after watching it, yes a new SE DVD would be nice, the LD sounds real nice, but of course the video is somewhat lacking.

Oh, and it is just one rather lengthy deleted scene on the LD. Ben Stiller is in the deleted scene as a cameraman and Hackman is giving him advice for those that have not seen it.

Figured they'd do a rerelease to coincide with Be Cool. What a great movie.

So did I.

Just watched the old release over the weekend. I see no reason to upgrade...well maybe.

Get Shorty was the first DVD I ever bought (in April 1998) to go with Sony 3000.

I have the original, but since Get Shorty is one of my favourite movies of the last decade, I'm easily going to be buying this rerelease. Fuck you Fuckball!

I've always been irritated that my DVD is labeled as 5.1 but defaults on my player to pro logic--perhaps it's mislabeled??? (Noticed that after it was much too late to return it.)

Also there's terrible distortion on the music during the opening credits.

Put me down for a new copy.

The 5.1 is not a misprint on the label. Get Shorty was one of the first DVD released in 1998. Since it was common for most people not to have multi-channel receivers, there was many discs that defaulted to 2 channel streo. You had to select 5.1 channel output. Now that most of the early days of DVD releases are eithe OOP or been re-released is no longer a problem.
