Dawn of the Dead Box set (1978 original) - 9/7

http://www.davisdvd.com/news/daily_news.html

Saw it at Davis DVD just now. No specs, but at least we have a date.

Rypro 525 05-18-04 05:56 PM

might want to edit the thread title to make sure people know this is for the original movie and not the remake

sirbrady 05-18-04 06:09 PM

I edited the subject, but the thread title didn't change. Hopefully "Box Set" is enough to distinguish between the 2.

matome 05-18-04 06:11 PM

I think only admins can change the thread titles once submitted. Thanks for the info anyway!

cultshock 05-18-04 06:19 PM

Nice news.
Don't worry about the thread title, as this is the version of the film that really matters, anyway. :D ;)

QuiGonJosh 05-18-04 06:34 PM

w00t!

asianxcore 05-18-04 06:36 PM

sweet :) glad there is finally a date now.

ReservoirDog45 05-18-04 06:42 PM

As far as what's in it DVDaf says:
127 Minute 'True' Theatrical Version
139 Minute Director's (Cannes Festival) Cut
Zombi: Dawn of the Dead - 117 Minute Argento European Version

And if that's true all I can say is w00t

TylerDurden_73 05-18-04 06:43 PM

I'm in!!!

Leechboy 05-18-04 06:56 PM

Hopefully it will not get delayed again.

Gizmo 05-18-04 10:08 PM

Wow....139 mins... Ive never seen that version before...sweet.

I don't think it's been confirmed yet.

AFAIK, the only things that are guaranteed are:

DISC 1: Theatrical Cut (the same DVD that's been released)
DISC 2: Director's Cut/Cannes Cut/Extended Cut - whatever you want to call it
DISC 3: Extras

The Argento "Zombi" cut and the documentary "Document of the Dead" were still up in the air last I heard, but if they did make it, each would receive its own DVD, pushing it up to a 4 DVD set if one is included, and a 5 DVD set if both are included.

Josh-da-man 05-18-04 10:35 PM

Also of note on the DavisDVD site are Star Trek Generations CE, Godfather II and Godfather III, from Paramount, and from Universal "Dazed and Confused Flashback Edition" and "Fast Times at Ridgemont High SE."

Last I heard, the set will only be 3 or 4 discs, meaning one or the other (or maybe neither) got included. :(

Nice!!! :D

Johnny Zhivago 05-19-04 10:28 AM

Geofferson 05-19-04 10:30 AM

I just hope that the Argento cut includes the Zombie musical score.

malkmuz 05-19-04 02:55 PM

Dear Anchor Bay: I want a cd of the Goblin score, as with Argento's Opera and Suspiria LE sets! Thanks. :D

cultshock 05-19-04 03:24 PM

Several years ago, I bought an excellent Italian soundtrack CD of Zombi featuring the Goblin score plus bonus tracks. Not sure if its still in print, but its worth seeking out if no CD is included with the Anchor Bay set.

Geofferson 05-19-04 04:21 PM

I too bought a Goblin CD compilation of their various movie scores. I don't remember where I got it though as it was a few years back.

Pelayu 05-19-04 04:52 PM

wow, wow. sign me up!

Mountain Biker 05-19-04 06:35 PM

TomOpus 05-19-04 08:17 PM

I can't wait to hear the final specs... man 'o man, it'll be sweet.

Dan Average 05-20-04 06:14 PM

Reliable sources from another forum indicate that only excerpts from Document of the Dead will be included, as opposed to the full film -- Synapse owns the rights to this and will be releasing it themselves sometime next year. Also the Argento cut is apparently a go.

As long as Synapse release their own edition of Document of the Dead and we have all three cuts of the film (theatrical, Cannes, and Argento) on the AB disc; then I'm ready. Let's release this ************ now! :)

Darkfriend 05-20-04 06:28 PM

Very good news indeed!

Dr. DVD 05-20-04 06:47 PM

Hey, that's my Birthday!!! :D

(feels faint.... gets up)

sirbrady 06-11-04 05:45 PM

Awesome!! Now that's a box set.

sracer 06-11-04 05:47 PM

Very nice! It's great to see Romero's films being treated with the respect they deserve! Anchor Bay has dramatically improved since the departure of Bill Lustig.

I never thought that I'd be looking forward to triple-dipping on this title. :D

Matthew Chmiel 06-11-04 05:47 PM

HOLY SHIT INDEED!

Now that's going to be one sweet ass box set!

meharry2003 06-11-04 05:51 PM

I can't wait for this!!!!!!!

This is going to be freakin' awesome!

bboisvert 06-11-04 05:55 PM

That's really pretty much everything I could have hoped for and more. Holy shit, indeed.
