I recently bought both Ghostbusters DVDs. I would be willing to upgrade only if the transfers are improved. I would much rather Columbia release a Fifth Element R1 Special Edition.

I'm not sure exactly what, but aren't there some that radically change some of the plot points and tone of the movie?

darmok 05-11-04 09:48 AM

i hope they include the alternatively shot scenes that were done for broadcast TV.

Fincher Fan 05-11-04 10:11 AM

I really do like this movie but they'd have to include more than just a couple of deleted scenes for me to purchase another version.

El-Kabong 05-11-04 10:57 AM

All they need to do is include the music video and I'm *ALL* over the new edition.

. . . .god I'm such a whore.

"Ghostbusters: The Wally Wick Edition".

QuiGonJosh 05-11-04 11:38 AM

unless they get most of the cast back for a commentary or it has some sort of 3hr doc...no sale...current disc is still one of the best out there!

The Nature Boy 05-11-04 11:56 AM

I was hoping for a theatrical rerelease to accompany this, any word on that?

VincentVega 05-11-04 12:13 PM

I'm glad this is coming. While the other disc was good I found the transfer to be too digital looking. That's the only way I can describe it. I hope that's fixed for this edition. I'd love to see the rest of the deleted scenes, the full, original script, a commentary with any other cast members and maybe a technical commentary and the music video make it to this disc.

Maybe if this sells well GB2 will get an s.e. It deserves it.

JCFantasy23 05-11-04 12:22 PM

Happy with the current disc, not wanting to double dip

demonio 05-11-04 02:32 PM

I'd like to see some cover art with the Ghostbuster logo too......also maybe a commentary on how Bill Murray used to be cool!!

Shannon Nutt 05-11-04 02:51 PM

Ghostbusters: The Goezerian Edition

Ghostbusters: The Slimed Edition

Ghostbusters: The "Big Twinkie" Edition

I would assume he is speaking of SE releases. It is definately jam packed for a budget disc with regard to special features. Video Commentary, trivia track, deleted scenes, storyboards, trailers, lots of DVD rom content including documentaries and featurettes. I am quite impressed with the current release as well, even if it is not DTS or anamorphic.

Zuul 05-11-04 11:01 PM

While the current disk does not contain a DTS track, it most certaintly is anamorphic.

It takes a big man to admit when he's wrong.

I am not a big man. :D

I laugh at the man who says that is one of the best SEs ever.

Mr. Cinema 05-12-04 08:31 AM

I don't have the current version, so I guess I will wait and buy this new one when it comes out.

jough 05-12-04 10:16 AM

Ghostbusters is already a great DVD (I think the poster above meant "one of the best DVDs").

The only reason I'd double-dip would be for compelling new extras - like a feature-lenght documentary about the making of the film, a look back by all of the major participants, etc.

Somehow, though, I suspect this will be a simple repackaging with some small new featurette added so that there's *something* new on the release - and they'll probably move the extras to a second disc to allow for a higher bitrate on the video ( to that).

That's because they crammed a ton of supplements and overly-ambitious animated menus all on the same disc with the movie. If they would split this out to a 2-disc set it would greatly improve the compression quality.

Masamune 05-12-04 01:05 PM

I have the current DVD, which in my opinion, is more than we need.

What they will add to this I don't know. Perhaps a new commentary with Ackroyd?

Unless it's something huge, I don't see myself getting a new version. However, a newer, better version of GB2 I would.

Get Me Coffee 05-12-04 01:37 PM

The first disc works for me. No need to double dip on this one.

LasVegasMichael 05-12-04 01:59 PM

I will double dip no matter what, but I would LOVE for this to be a two disc SE, so the compression quality previosly mentioned would be rectified. Because of this thread, I popped in the DVD and watched it on my new 50" screen (previously had an old POS), and saw the noticable differences.

Still keeping fingers crossed on a GBII SE as well!

DouglasRobert 05-12-04 02:26 PM

Also would like to see this released as a 2-Disc set. As others have said, that all the extras and the film itself was crammed onto one disc. All the extras, except for audio commentaries, should be on the second disc.

Also would like to see the Ray Parker Jr. music video included. If I recall, Ray refused to give permission to include the video. Don't know why. But it's the song he's best known for and I'm sure he could use some royalty checks.

Also would like to see Ghostbusters II get a Special Edition treatment. It would be nice if they included that Bobby Brown music video.
