Monster Legacy Upgrade Question

I know the Legacy Set has a couple movies that were not released in the Classic Monster Boxset.

However, I already have the Classic Monster box set AND all of the Universal Monster double-feature discs that were released a couple years ago.

There were 6 double feature discs:

1. The Mummy's Hand
The Mummy's Tomb

2. The Mummy's Curse
The Mummy's Ghost

3. The Ghost of Frankenstein
The Son of Frankenstein

4. Dracula's Daughter
Son of Dracula

5. House of Frankenstein
Frankenstein Meets the Wolf Man

6. Werewolf of London
She Wolf of London

Are there any movies in the Legacy set that I don't have already?

What are the other advantages to the Legacy Set?

(The only thing I know of is a better transfer for Bride of Frankenstein)

Should I upgrade?

I think House of Dracula is the only one you don't already have.

The only other advantage I know of are the cool busts. :)

And conversely...

My question, having NOT gotten the OOP Monsters box, are there features that I'm missing out on, that were exclusive to the first editions?

Don't get me wrong, I'm getting the busts-box regardless, but I'm curious. And quite happy about the BOF restoration.

Fortunately, I don't have any of these on DVD, so this is a no-brainer for me. :)

I'll probably pick it up at Costco for $54.99, unless it's cheaper elsewhere.

I looked over the Frankenstein review earlier...there's no commentary with the film historians on the new set?

Does the Costco set contain the Van Helsing plate that you get at Target? Or is it Exclusive?

They're mentioned in this DVDTalk review.

I reviewed the Dracula set, and I have all the original releases. Everything that was on the originals is included in the Dracula set. The transfers are the same, except for Dracula that is very slightly softer.

With the Dracula set you also get a 6 1/2 minute fulff piece promoting the movie "Van Helsing," and the film "House of Dracula" both of which are new to this set.

You can read the entire review here:

Is BOF the only film from the entire set that got a new transfer?

OK, I hate to bump this up, but I have a question. I was just given the new, complete Legacy set with busts as a gift (actually, I am about to be given it). I already had, like diesteldorf, all of the original released, double features, etc. Here is what I am wondering - I am thinking of selling or giving away my original discs due to short shelf space. But, I do not want to lost anything from the original discs. Is there any reason to keep any of the original discs? I know about the Dracula sound issue, so I will be hanging onto that one. Other than that, can anyone give me any reason why I should not get rid of my original discs? Yes, the spines are cool-looking, but shelf space is at a premium right now, and I am more concerned with actual content. Thanks so much in advance for any information!

Wolf Man is missing the photo gallery. That and the Dracula sound issue is it.

The new WOLFMAN edition is also missing the trailer.

ZackR 10-14-04 12:47 PM

OK, thanks for that. So, so far I have gotten that I want to keep Dracula and Wolfman. I am a big fan of trailers, so I do not want to miss out on that. What about the double feature discs? Anything on those not present on the current releases? I do not plan on getting rid of any of the Phantom, Creature or Invisible Man discs until if/when new releases are available and I can see what is on those, but I with the films that have been re-released, I do not want to lose anything. Thanks for the information so far guys. :)

I have the original set and 2 of the double features:
Dracula's Daughter/Son of Dracula
The Ghost of Frankenstein/The Son of Frankenstein

ZackR 10-19-04 12:04 PM

Well, now that the next 3 sets are out, can anyone provide any information to whether or not there are any missing features/problems with the new discs that were not present on the originals? I would really like to get rid of all my original discs, but do not want to miss out on something important to me (like the Wolfman trailer) or end up a problem (Dracula audio issues).
Thanks again!!
