Well why not just listen to the original soundmixes then?

The 5.1 botchjobs are pointless anyway. + 5.1 will not give you surround action constantly. In fact most older films have nothing you can really spread out to the back channels at all. So you mostly get stereo mixes with sound coming from a couple speakers. Which also makes the usually terrible sounding 5.1 remix a waste of time & money in the first place. So just stick with the original mix when included..& you will be happier...unless you stress to have 'every' speaker filled at all costs

Julie...

You assume that Paramount puts the original Dolby Surround mixes on there. I'll have to take a listen but from my experience...they don't. They sound just as bad as the remixed 5.1 tracks.

Digitalbits reports today that Paramount has pushed the Untouchables SE back to an undetermined later date in 2004.

TheDigitalBits is reporting that this DVD may be delayed beyond July now. No word as to why. Anyway, I waited to buy this when the bare bones edition came out, figuring that a special edition would be in its future. Glad I was right.

Amazon still shows this as being released next month as does the DVDTalk "Coming Soon", but I can't find it elsewhere.

Is it still delayed? If not, any word on the features?

Me too.

Well, truth be told I traded the last release away in about five minutes.

I was wondering why this hasn't shown up on the July release schedule anywhere.

Man, October 5th is going to be an expensive day. It seems that many great titles are being pushed back to that date.

Accoring to DVDAF, Godfather part II, and Part III will be released by themselves on this day as well, so it makes sense.

Does anyone know what the special features on this disc will be? I can't seem to find them listed anywhere.

this is regarding the UK-R2 release, but I'm pretty certain they will be very similar, if not identical:

We have a few early details regarding Paramount's August 2nd UK DVD release of The Untouchables Special Collector's Edition. The movie will boast an anamorphic widescren transfer and DD5.1 English audio.

Extra features will include The Script, The Cast documentary (18mins); Production Stories documentary (17mins); Re-Inventing The Genre (14mins); and The Classic featurette (5mins).

The RRP will be 19.99.
Direct link here.

The only extras...

Documentaries:
THE UNTOUCHABLES - THE SCRIPT
THE UNTOUCHABLES - THE CAST
THE UNTOUCHABLES - PRODUCTION STORIES
THE UNTOUCHABLES - RE-INVENTING THE GENRE
THE UNTOUCHABLES - THE CLASSIC

They clock in a little over an hour...supposedly. Nothing else new. Same transfer. Same sound. Same trailer. No commentary. No deleted scenes.

Sorry if this has already been posted; I haven't been following this thread...

DavisDVD says the SRP for this disc will be $19.99, but several sites (including Deep Discount DVD, DVDPlanet, Buy.com and VideoUniverse) still have it listed as $14.99, with pre-orders discounted accordingly. Same goes for the upcoming Footloose SE.
