Has Anyone Become a Fan of a show through the DVD?

How many of you have been a fan of a certain show through collecting DVDs and not watching it on TV for a reg basis.

For Me, here are the show I collect but don't bother to watch on TV:

Dark Angel
Freaks & Geeks
24
Angel

What are yours?

Freaks and Geeks for me. Did not watch a single episode when it was on NBC. I enjoyed Undeclared when that was on so when I heard Freaks and Geeks was coming out on DVD, I decided I would make it a blind buy. Best $120 I have ever spent. This show just rocks!

I bought the first season of Buffy basically blind. I had only seen a few episodes before picking up the set. Now I'm a huge fan and have every Buffy and Angel boxset, plus the movie.

I never watched a single episode of 24 until I got the first season from freedvds.com. I watched the first episode and was instantly hooked, I watched all 18 hours of the first season in one sitting.

Lots of TV blind buys for me, all of which I now love:

Angel
Buffy
Coupling
Felicity
Family Guy
Futurama
Clerks: TAS
The Dead Zone
The Ben Stiller Show
The West Wing
Sex and the City
Sports Night

I also bought Smallville: Season 1 blind, but still haven't watched it yet.

Family Guy

I had seen a few episodes on FOX, but I really fell for the show after getting the DVDs.

Never saw an episode before buying:

- Simpsons (seriously)
- Family Guy
- Futurama
- Sopranos
- Six Feet Under
- The Shield
- Alias
- 24
- MI-5
- Buffy
- Angel
- Firefly
- Sex & The City (saw 1 or 2 episodes)
- Freaks & Geeks (husband caught the last few episodes)

I'm now a fan of these shows, and own all available seasons on DVD, but I still prefer to wait for the DVD and watch shows in marathons (even with UltimateTV/TIVO).

There are very few shows (West Wing, Coupling, Father Ted) that I'd actually seen most, if not all, the episodes before buying. Shows like the Shield/24/Alias with a season or series long story arc play like 22 hour movies and work well for me in the DVD format. I'm too impatient to wait from week to week (yet somehow I manage to wait a year between DVD releases!) The only bad part is avoiding spoilers (which can't be done 100% obviously).

I don't buy TV blind. If I didn't bother to watch it when it was free why would I pay to see it?

I'm not a big fan on Tv, so the only one would be Coupling.

I regretted missing it when it aired, but I didn't want to start watching the Pilot/Season 1 DVDs until I knew that Season 2 was at least on the horizon. I grew so tired of waiting, I finally gave up and gave the DVDs to my Dad (fan of the show and doesn't mind not having season 2 for now, because he's already seen it). If they ever sort out the legal issues and release Season 2, I'll rebuy the whole thing. Shame.

OZ, Sopranos and Six Feet Under are the only series I have bought blind. I love all three.

HBO is making some kick ass television.
