Very slick. The extra crap I will probably discard, but the disc looks solid. Finally my Verhoeven collection will be complete!

Most unintentionally funny movie EVER! What's even better is some guy or girl working at a studio came up with the idea and said "Man, we could sure use a special edition of one our older releases. OOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOH, how 'bout "Showgirls"? Who wouldn't put down their hard-earned money to check THAT one out again?!"

DVDFile's blurb on this from March 29th said it's a NC-17 cut of the film. Is that how it was released?

"Goddess - 3:58m

The Greatest Movie of All Time gets the Greatest DVD of All Time? A day that will go down in infamy, on July 27th MGM Home Entertainment will release the Showgirls: V.I.P. Edition, a deluxe box set unlike any other. Featuring the NC-17 cut of the film presented in a new anamorphic widescreen transfer and Dolby Digital 5.1 surround track, extras include an audio commentary by Showgirls expert David Schmader, a video commentary by the Scores Girls for the "Cheetah Club" scene, a subtitle trivia track, an animated storyboard-to-film comparison, the original making-of EPK and theatrical trailers. Other extras in the box set include a deck of Showgirls playing cards, two Showgirls shot glasses, Elizabeth Berkley photo cards and a series of party games: "Sip or Strip," "Showgirls A-Z," "Bad Tipper" and "Champagne Room." Predictably, none of the film's original cast or filmmakers have participated in the extras (nope, no Paul Verhoeven, Gina Gershon or Berkley). Retail will be $39.95. "

It was released in theaters NC-17, then recut down to R for certain video store chains. The NC-17 version was the original DVD release.

This set looks very nice, but the playing cards should have had pictures of naked girls on them.

Interesting that none of the original people are participating. Have they no sense of humor?

This is the worst movie I've ever seen. I had to stop the tape twice it was so bad.

Needless to say, I will buy this one in a heartbeat.

So it is a petty he did not make a commentary track yet for Showgirl.

BTW on the DVD of Flesh + Blood he did a great commentary.

This guy is the coolest director Hollywood ever get.
Can't wait for his new film.

Tom Green also showed up to accept for Freddie Got Fingered, as I recall.

Except that Berkely is supposed to be standing up in that pose. They've turned the photo sideways to make it look like she's lying down, and now she's contorted into a weird position (even for a stripper).

It's too bad they're not releasing just the disc separately. I don't want all of that crap - I just hope the DVD comes in a keepcase that I can put on my shelf. The other stuff I'll probably sell on eBay.

We've reviewed this set here.

Snippet:
Purely to be revered as a hilarious mistake in Hollywood history, this movie can be laughed at or just loathed. If you want to do the former, this package is ideal – ignoring the largely irrelevant high quality presentation, the extras are the real gems of this set, most notably the sparklingly sarcastic commentary and funny trivia track facts. Packaged in a luxury box set, this special edition has everything a fun-loving ‘fan’ would desire.

Anyone see this set selling for clearance prices of 10 bucks or less in the near future? (definitely)

Don't know if I want to wait it out or go ahead & buy the dumb thing.

What scenes make it NC-17?

Anybody know specifically what scenes make it rated NC-17? Wondering if it is worth the purchase...always had a thing for Gina Gershon. If someone who has could let me know. Thanks.
