Great job! The site looks fantastic - I really appreciate all of the time you put in to pull this off.

The only other thing I'd love to see are the raw vote totals. Is there a link to the master spreadsheet anywhere?

Tarantino 02-23-04 11:41 PM

That's awesome, jough (although Fight Club HAS to be the greatest DVD of all time, democracy wins...)!

A great read and a reminder of all of the discs I have to pick up...:(

Ergyu 02-23-04 11:50 PM

Great job dude. The site looks pretty slick and obviously took quite a bit of work. Congrats!

Ah, I see what I did. I mentioned the Last Temptation in my caption for the Beatles Anthology, and when I searched for "Last Temptation" I found that and stuck the quote in there. That's what happens when you stay up all night trying to finish up a web site so it'll be up when people get into work in the morning.

Then, of course, I forgot to post the links anywhere until after I got up, so the point was kinda moot anyway. ;)

So, while I was tinkering I added some more user quotes to the Runners-Up page (I didn't put any there before, but I didn't want to take away the quote that was up there, and it wouldn't have looked right with just one title on the page having a quote - so, there's more now):

How can I take a list seriously that even has that in the top 1000?

Have you seen it? Oh wait...of course not. But the other 99 you have I am sure! :)

What's to take seriously? The list is a reflection of popular opinion. People voted on certain titles and the ones with the most votes made the list.

Any title is on there because more people voted for it, and placed it more highly in their lists, than titles that weren't ranked as highly.

The list isn't scientific, but the results are.

Kal-El 02-24-04 12:48 PM

Yeah I can't believe some are actually taking this too seriously. It's been done mostly out of fun for the past 2 years you guys. Cool it. :D

DeputyDave 02-24-04 12:50 PM

Bravo! Great job. I may nit pick about the order a bit but it is quite a list.
Well done!

slop101 02-24-04 03:51 PM

I guess I pretty much agree with the list, as I own 97 of the titles from the top 100.

(and there's only three that I don't have from the runner-ups)

EskimoJoe 02-24-04 03:51 PM

A bit disappointed in some of the results.

Thanks for the hard work, looks great!

davidlynchfan 02-24-04 04:00 PM

Yo Jough! Great job. Good read and glad i was a part of it.

planet_jake 02-24-04 04:17 PM

Yeah I gotta hand it to you Jough, thats looks great, Can't thank you enough for the work well done!

I noticed that of the DVDs that made the list, only ONE of the I voted for appeared outside of the top 10!

I don't care what every single member of DVD Talk says about you Jough, I think you're allright.

jough 02-24-04 05:56 PM

Thanks for the kind words, all.

And thanks too for those who've linked to the site in other forums, in your blogs, etc. I appreciate it.

Yeah, it was more hours of work thank I had anticipated (My SO: "Whatcha working on?" Me: "That DVD Census I was telling you about." Her: "Still?") but it was a lot of fun, and it's nice to bring together something that other people enjoy.

Doctor Gonzo 02-24-04 10:05 PM

A really GREAT looking site, jough, and a great read as well - and now a part of my favorites list. thanks for all the hard work... its a masterpiece!

karnblack 02-24-04 10:28 PM

Awsome job!

After reading most of the comments I went out and picked up Notorious. I hadn't realized it had gone out of print, and I had been looking for an excuse to pick it up. Thanks again.

B.A. 02-24-04 11:07 PM

Job well done, jough.

layth1 02-25-04 05:47 AM

Awsome, job well done!

I appreciate the effort, it was a fun read. And 9 out of my votes made it in the top 100. And some quotes I said are there too.

Hammer99 02-25-04 09:53 AM

Super job, thanks a lot! Instantly bookmarked!

billy9215 02-25-04 09:59 AM

Even though I don't agree with a lot of the choices...great job!

B.A. 02-25-04 10:53 AM

I am disappointed to see that not enough people voted for The Goonies to have it included in the top 100 or the 25 runners-up.

;)

dealer 02-25-04 01:01 PM

Nice work.

I'm suprised that in 3 pages there are no "This is crap because it has The Rock on it, but not _________________ (insert other Criterion title here)!!!"

I think the sampling is good enough to produce an accurate representation of what the survey is trying to accomplish. If you asked a million people the same questions, the list would probably be about the same.
