Queer Eye for the Straight Guy

Iwould love to have a "best of" DVD of this show. It's hilarious! Anyone else interested?

gutwrencher 09-16-03 11:29 AM

sounds like a great title for a transplant gone wrong type film. a true horror film-wink-

with the stuff they are slappin' on dvd of late.....it'll be here before ya know it. I'll pass though.

Jackskeleton 09-16-03 11:35 AM

it has only one season on its back so far.. I would HATE a "best of" dvd. why not make it of the full season? it was only around 7 episodes right?

Welcome to the forum, Duality.
It's a common practice in these parts to put a question mark in the thread title if you don't have any news to report about a potential upcoming release. This is so people won't get all excited thinking that there's some news.
Like I just did.

;)

S'pose I should point out that the "Welcome to the forum, Duality" line is intended as a joke.
I can plainly see that Duality is one of a small number of people who registered over six months before I did, and I'm ancient.

Duality 09-16-03 12:25 PM

That's OK.

I'll try to remember that rule. I usually don't post much. Lately I've been a lot more active - not typical.

According to TVTome, the 10th episode airs tonight.

Personally, I don't like the show, but my partner loves it.

Considering its popularity, I'd say a DVD release is pretty much certain.

A DVD release would be great. I bet there is a ton of behind the scenes stuff and hilarious outtakes that would go great on a dvd release. :)

I think you can still go change the subject line now...

Static Cling 09-16-03 04:05 PM

Nope, I've gotta change it.

mrwilson 09-19-03 09:08 AM

I hope it comes to DVD. The 'Dream catcher' reference still has me rolling!

Duality 01-02-04 01:56 PM

Eyeing the field...

Gee with all the TV shows flying through stores these days I want my Queer Eye!

Groucho 01-02-04 01:59 PM

I'm shocked nothing has been announced since this show is such a breakout hit.

PJsig08 01-02-04 02:00 PM

I'm SURE it'll come to DVD. This is one of the biggest shows on TV and they're gonna try to ride it for all it's worth.

I won't buy it, but if there are commentaries for each episode, maybe that'll be a plus.

jayson1017 01-02-04 11:15 PM

I've seen a few episodes of the show. It is hilarious, indeed. The dvds would definitely be a rental though. (How many times can anyone watch a single episode?)

mrwilson 01-03-04 09:08 AM

I just want to listen to the commentary on the episode where they find the guys 'dream catcher' (he actually said that) stuffed in the couch. OMG that was funny! I don't even remember what else happened in the rest of the episode I was laughing so hard! Of course the wife didn't get it.

Tarnower 01-03-04 10:09 AM

Gee, wouldn't it be nice to see a gay-themed TV show without stereotypically flamboyant gay characters. I know the show is entertaining, but talk about feeding into negative stereotypes! This show certainly isn't helping much in terms of people viewing gay people in a more positive light. Then again, if you would have less feminine gay men the ratings and popularity probably wouldn't be what they are.

digitalfreaknyc 01-03-04 10:12 AM

Ummm...have you watched the show? Perhaps all you hear about is Carson...and maybe Jai...

But other than those two, I wouldn't say ANY of the other 3 are flamboyant. Positive thinking? Yes. But then again, I know a lot of straight men would mistake excitement for flamboyancy.

Just in case anyone is still interested...the limited edition version of the soundtrack that is coming out Feb 10th has a DVD with it.

From Amazon.com:
LIMITED EDITION includes enhanced CD + Queer Eye For The Straight Guy book excerpt & EXCLUSIVE DVD DVD CONTENT:
- Music tips and picks from the Fab 5
- South Park Fab 5
- Kylie Minogue "Slow" video
- Widelife "All Things" video
- Making of the Widelife "All Things" video with Fab 5
- Photo Montage with 50 shots of the Fab 5

Tempting...if I can find it cheap enough. LOVE that theme song!

The original thread title STILL applies. Against my better judgment, I bought the Carson Queer Eye DVD set and I don't know whether to send it to Scout Productions, Bravo or Genius Products with a little note expressing my disgust with how the show is being treated (so far) on DVD.

The three FORCED, can't skip, no way, no how, Bravo TV ads that open the disc just really put me in a bad mood for the first 10 minutes or so of the disc. The actual program was really just OK -- there's nothing special about it. The 2nd disc (AGAIN with the same FORCED ads!! WTF?) with Carson outtakes (20 minutes worth) also feels like a cheat. It also includes the complete John Bargeman episode, which might be the best liked straight guy from the first season.

I'm just posting this as a warning to fans of the show (and wish I'd read the DVDTalk review first!) -- DON'T waste your money on this and send the message to the producers of this dreck that these DVDs are acceptable. Wait for the season sets, whenever they might appear!
