It could be that the rights holders weren't willing to grant usage, wanted too much money or maybe MTV just didn't want to try.

Re: Fans of MTV's "The State" Rejoice

I noticed some techno song on Season 2 was the original version. I can't remember it off the top of my head, but I thought it was kind of odd....

I wonder if someone will make their own version based on the dvds but with the original music.

Was it "The Power"? When that started I remember thinking "Hey, that's not a redo!"

Haven't gotten there, but since they bleep out the cursing in the commentary, I'm assuming they bleep that out too.

It's been a while and most of the skits that they showed were not based around music, so not quite sure can't go back to check because when I thought my dvr was recording it, it didn't work.

Why does IMDB list this as having 29 episodes (including the pilot)? It says there were 8 shows the first season? Another obvious music change is "Canada" for "Panama". you can even see them mouthing Panama.

Re: Fans of MTV's "The State" Rejoice

For season one, there were six episodes recorded (101-106) but for some reason, MTV didn't air 104 and 105 and instead combined them into 107, and then 108 was just a compilation show

And they bleeped it, ugh. Just got set yesterday, so didn't have much time, so only watched a bit, forgot how classic funny some of the skits are. But why would they keep the bleep, anybody know, maybe because they could only use the original tape of the show that aired on tv?

Haven't had time to check them with different music, but thought that was weak. I did like the letter to the fans to explain the music and trying to keep the integrity of the original sketches.

My guess is it was because the original audio may have been lost to time. Also, sometimes bleeps are just funnier.

Joe Lo Truglio's character on Reno 911 is Frank Rizzo.
I like to think it's not just a coincidence that Joe Lo Truglio's character is named Frank Rizzo and is from New York.

Looks like every episode is not available for Instant Streaming on Netflix

As a newbie, what would be the best episodes to watch?

Is it too hard to start from the beginning?

Episode 102 introduces 2 of the shows most memorable characters, 107 has one of their best-ever sketched (Mind Match).

As a sketch show, nearly every episode is hit-and-miss, although The State had more hits than misses.

Fans of MTV's "The State" (who don't venture into Music Talk), keep rejoicing. Their never-released 1996 CD "Comedy for Gracious Living" is finally coming out on Sept. 20th: http://www.rhino.com/shop/product/th...racious-living

No its a shout out to The Jerky Boys, who first used the name Frank Rizzo in their prank phone calls.

Anyone who uses that name now is homaging those two.

Frank Rizzo was used well before the Jerky Boys, it was in a few National Lampoon Radio Hour sketches in the 70s as well.
