ANY Disney sequels any good?

I often read people complaing about the glut of Disney sequels, and I have to admit that I don't watch them, with the exception of Toy Story 2, based on all the bad press. But are there any out there that are worth checking out?

BJacks 12-05-02 04:32 PM

I've heard Aladdin 2 was pretty good. Haven't seen it myself, though.

LBPound 12-05-02 05:24 PM

The Lion King II is okay. Nowhere near as good as the original, but one of the better sequels, nonetheless. Essentially Romeo and Juliet, but with talking lions.

soxrule 12-05-02 05:39 PM

The santa clause 2 is great

PixyJunket 12-05-02 05:59 PM

I enjoyed Return to Neverland!

Simpson Purist 12-05-02 06:02 PM

Sorry, Toy Story 2 is the only tolerable (and great) Disney sequel. I don't know about you guys but saying the Toy Story movies are Disney films is like saying Star Wars is a Fox film, when in fact all Fox and Disney did was handle the distribution.

I agree  There's no way it could be close to the original but I thought they did a decent job. Animation was better than I expected.

One might say the first Lion King is Animal version of Shakespeare's Hamlet.

Gonna have to agree with the Lion King II being one of the few good Disney sequels. It's also the only one of the sequel films that I own. Can't wait until October next year, for the original film to be released. :)

if aladdin 2 is "return of jafar", then no it isnt that good, yes we have homer simpson as the genie but still the movie aint good at all.

kunert 12-05-02 06:49 PM

I still like Rescuers Down Under okay, especially in light of the fact that Rescuers was no masterpiece. George C. Scott as the villian makes it entertaining. Otherwise, yeah Toy Story 2 is the one worth mentioning, but then everything Pixar does is gold.

Jackskeleton 12-05-02 08:16 PM

No, because anything that is a sequel is an automatic crappy film. -rolleyes-

Of course some are good, and like any type of movie, some are bad. just the way it goes.

Lets see the good.

I did enjoy the rescuers down under as a kid.

then again, many kids I'm sure enjoy these films because it is seeing more of there favorite characters. Maybe we don't like them, but hey, if kids enjoy them, more power to them.

Movie_Man 12-06-02 11:01 AM

Return to Neverland was acceptable (not awful). Hardly a ringing endorsement though.
I thought Aladdin 2 was terrible, though I must confess I did fall asleep halfway through it.

hondo21 12-06-02 11:07 AM

I thought Little Mermaid II and Lady and the Tramp II: Scamp's Adventure were okay, certainly not as good as the originals but not as bad as some.

For example, Hunchback II was absolutely horrible, IMO.

Iron_Giant 12-06-02 11:26 AM

I have yet to see a sequel that was any good.

fumanstan 12-06-02 12:32 PM

I liked both Aladdin sequels, havent gotten a chance to see most of the new ones though

rfduncan 12-06-02 02:12 PM

Jeez! Do we really need a new thread for this topic every few days?

This is basically the same topic:

Wrong. Disney has done much more than just distribute the Pixar films. For instance they had a big hand in helping design the characters and suggested many changes to the stories that undoubtably made them better.

People tend to forget this when talking of the Pixar films, and it will be interesting to see if the quality if the Pixar films does suffer if and when they finish their existing Disney contract and renew with another studio.

Godfather 2 won Best Picture, but that doesn't necessarily mean it was any good.

Yeah, I saw that. Posted in it too, did ya see? The complaints were being bantered about the sequels tho, so I thought I'd start a thread seeing if there were any that people thought were good, so actually it's a different topic. Both are about Disney sequels, but one is complaining about them and one is trying to see if anything good can be said about them.

HEY!! It wasn't all complaints. I did say I liked TSII, Fantasia 2k & Return To Neverland. Jeez...:D

Michael Corvin 12-06-02 11:16 PM

I can't put TS2 and Fantasia 2000 in the same category as the straight to video stuff. Both above are excellent. I also enjoyed Aladdin and the King of Theives(the triumphant return of Robin Williams as Genie). Other than that, I don't think I've seen any, unless you count Buzz Lightyear of Star Command. But I guess that wouldn't matter either since it sucked as well.

Barg 05-08-05 02:14 PM

I'd kept thinking about a sequel to The Great Mouse Detective.

Rogue588 05-08-05 02:25 PM

So you registered today and felt the need to post just about the same thing in every Disney sequel thread...? :hscratch: -screwy-

Oh, by the way, welcome to the forum

Brent L 05-08-05 02:28 PM

Isn't Mulan II ok? I believe the DVDTalk reviewer gave it good marks even.
