A Fish Called Wanda Special Edition on the way in 2003

Straight from Mr. John Cleese himself, a special edition of A Fish Called Wanda is on the way sometime next year. He just finished recording a commentary for it and says that other extras will include an extended cut of the film with 12 minutes of "rather funny" unseen footage.

Unfortunately, he was unaware of any plans to release a widescreen edition of Fierce Creatures.

I did a search and nothing came up, but if this has already been posted I apologize.

Hurray, I'm glad I put off buying the bare bones current edition, which I've heard has a pretty rotten transfer.

I like the movie, but not enough to do a double dipping.

My question is will they leave the airport jokes in there? They would be so edited out of any movie released to day. Not that it bothers me, mind you, I just know how uptight certain studio suits are about stuff like that.

Fabulous news, can't wait!

...current edition, which I've heard has a pretty rotten transfer.
I wouldn't say rotten, just kind of standard. Seen worse.

Ditto. And this is a film just crying out for a group commentary.

"Are you totally deranged?"

Great news! I have the original and it does have a mediocre transfer, as others have said.

Yes - one of the few movies that I would double-dip for.

"Oh, you English are so superior, aren't you? Well, would you like to know where you'd be without the old U S of A to protect you? The smallest ****ing province in the Russian Empire! So don't call me stupid, lady, just thank me!"

"I offer a complete and utter retraction. The imputation was totally without basis in fact, was in no way fair comment, and was motivated purely by malice, and I deeply regret any distress that my remarks may have caused you, or your family, and I hereby undertake not to repeat such a slander at any time in the future."

Agree... will enjoy an SE of this. If they're going to add the additional footage though, I would much prefer a branching version so we get a cleaned up version of the theatrical release too.

I have to say I'd prefer they do that on *all* SEs where they plan to include additional footage. Crappy player incompatibilities be damned. I was actually *impressed* to find that Kate & Leopold of all movies has the theatrical and an extended cut on it using branching. If that movie has it, any and all SEs of my favorite movies should have it.

Oh, forgot obligatory favorite quote: (far too many to include them all)

"I love your a** when you walk! Don't touch him! He's mine!"

Awesome news! Like others have said...one of the few I'd gladly double-dip in favour of a new SE.

The obligatory quote:

"Calling you stupid is an insult to stupid people!"

"Oh no! K-K-K-Ken is coming to k-k-k-kill me!"

Love this movie!!!

Great news on the updated edition.

Though the whole ensemble shines, the movie belongs to Kline, who simply puts forth one of the most uproarious performance ever captured on film.

"You obviously know nothing about Secret Service work ma'am, it's an...an...X-K-Red 27 Technique."

Doesn't matter to me if the current release isn't the best transfer of all time... my eyes are usually teared up with all the laughing anyway! Looking forward to the SE!

They did nothing to edit Big Trouble when it came out earlier this year. They only delayed its original 9/14 opening....

In any case, this is a classic film. The American Film Institute once billed it as THE classic comedy of american cinema since it contains ALL genres of american cinematic comedy (e.g. screwball, slapstick, etc.). I too am glad I didn't take the pluge on the recently price reduced current version!

Good news. I've never been able to bring myself to buying the current fish DVD, even at $10. Full screen, bare bones -- ICK.

Can't wait for this SE.

TeeSeeJay, it's NOT fullscreen - it's WIDE, just not anamorphic. And come on, holding off at a price that low is NOT the right thing to do.

"We did not lose in Vietnam. It was a tie!"

Glad to double dip for this puppy. Besides, my original Wanda was a freebie from the Bond discs, so does that even count as double dipping? (This is the arguement I will present to my wife who went ballistic after she found I re-bought Memento and Traffic last month

Never got the barebones disc, but I will be dumping my VHS copy when this hits the shelf.

Obligatory quote...

Otto: You pompous, stuck-up, snot-nosed, English, giant, twerp, scumbag, ****-face, ****head, *******.
Archie: How very interesting. You're a true vulgarian, aren't you?
Otto: You are the vulgarian, you ****!
