if you are 1) a newcomer; 2) a casual fan who only invested in the previous Universal disc, the Anchor Bay Limited Edition Director's Cut or the Bootleg Director's Cut; 3) a hardcore Evil Dead fan; or 4) committed, renowned Evil Dead collector and DVDTalk Forum member xage, then I suppose this is the Theatrical Cut disc for you.

Saw Evil Dead 1 & 2 with new "Horror Collection" slipcovers at Target today for $14.99 each. Taget also had some of the other usual Anchor Bay suspects (Dawn of the Dead, Day of the Dead, Halloween) with the same style slipcover.

from the looks of it, the widescreen version of Evil Dead that anchor bay released a few years ago (not the new version), and the old version of Evil Dead 2)

That cover on the second one is awful. Especially where they placed the stars.
Is there any news on Evil Dead 2 getting a re-release on blu-ray anytime soon? Target has it for $10 and my wife picked it up for me. I'd be surprised if there wasn't one since they always seem to make a mistake on the previous edition and try to fix it but for some reason there's always something wrong which warrants another fix which has something else wrong/missing which warrants another...

Oh look, another re-release. I think it's only the first disc from the previous set. Perhaps they should have named this one the "Not-So Ultimate Collection."

Adding this as the third variant for Evil Dead Ultimate Edition ( A Single Disc Ultimate Edition )

There were Two Ultimate Edition Evil Dead DVDs, they were basically different in packaging.
Here is the close image of the two Evil Dead Ultimate Edition ( One is a French Canadian Release and the other is the Regular USA release)

They don't own the rights to the whole series anymore. Universal has the Army Of Darkness rights again.

Re: One/Only Evil Dead Series Versions thread (merged in effect thread)
Keep in mind that there's a new AOD edition coming out this year. It's the Broomstick Edition and it should prove to be the best release yet. I haven't purchased any of the previous editions, so I can't comment on those, but from what I've read, this should be worth waiting for. They're doing something like the Wonka candy bar "golden ticket" thing. One DVD will contain a "Dinner With Bruce Campbell" ticket. It looks like this will have the directors cut, as well as the theatrical release. Other than that, hopefully someone else can shed more light on this.
I'm sure there's a thread out there somewhere that has a whole discussion on this release.
