What to do with > 1000 empty DVD cases?
Finally took the plunge and made the switch to binders for my DVD collection, and now I have more than 1000 empty DVD cases that I need to get rid of. I'd hate to just trash them... not even sure they can be recycled. What to do with them???

Re: What to do with > 1000 empty DVD cases?
Put them on the curb in front of a house 2 doors down with a "Free" sign on them. Next door is too obvious and 3 doors down is a band.

Re: What to do with > 1000 empty DVD cases?
Melt them all and make one giant DVD case.

Re: What to do with > 1000 empty DVD cases?
Drop them off at your closest Shoplifters Anonymous meeting.

It's okay to throw out the environment friendly cases. ;)

Re: What to do with > 1000 empty DVD cases?
If you put them in a lot on eBay, they'll probably sell for $100-or-so.
I'd suggest throwing them in the garage. Maybe you'll miss the look of a collection and want to switch back. |

Your local library may be interested. Not sure they would want 1,000 but many a couple hundred?

Build a fort.
BTW, you've just made it so much easier for thieves to walk away with your whole DVD collection. |

You could always drop them off at a Goodwill, Salvation Army type place.....a couple of hours before they open.

Send them to me.

Re: What to do with > 1000 empty DVD cases?
Keep them so when you realize that you hate having your collection in binders, you can put 'em back in their cases and back on the shelves where they belong...

We ended up grabbing all those questionable titles and started listing them on half.com and we've been selling like crazy. The binders and the plastic bins went back the day after I bought them to the store. |

I believe I've said this here before, but Meritline cases are the only way to go with a project like this:
http://www.meritline.com/images/prod...ge/180-355.jpg I don't have my movies stored in them, but I used to be a pretty active music DVD trader. I've got 8 of these totes dedicated to my collection. Very easy to shift things around for sorting purposes, since you simply move the sleeves on the rails. I prefer the 510-capacity model, simply from a manageability standpoint...but you can get cases that hold 1000 or more. http://www.meritline.com/510-discs-a...--p-40880.aspx |

http://www.meritline.com/merax-420-c...--p-38774.aspx http://www.meritline.com/images/prod...ge/180-295.jpg for the DVD's a few of these: http://www.meritline.com/420-cd-dvd-...--p-49675.aspx http://www.meritline.com/images/prod...ge/180-472.jpg for my blu-rays and one of these http://www.meritline.com/420-capacit...--p-40660.aspx http://www.meritline.com/images/prod...ge/180-328.jpg for the HD DVDs and television show DVDs. I numbered each binder, as well as each page. I then use www.gcstar.org which is a free "Delicious Library"-like clone for Microsoft based computers to organize the collection: http://terrywhite.com/techblog/wp-co.../05/dl-000.png which allows me to browse my collection virtually sitting on my couch using my netbook. So, when you click on one of the dvd images in the program it will tell me where to go in order to find the actually corresponding physical disc: ie: BINDER3, PAGE56, SLOT3. That way I don't have to keep reshuffling the actual physical discs to maintain alphabetical order whenever I go buy something new, I can just add them to the end of the binders. It's not for everyone, but it works for me. |

Build an outhouse with the cases.
