Question about Harry Potter Limited Edition Box Set

I hope someone can help me with this. I want to buy the HP Limited Edition Box Set that contains the first five movies. I love the packaging, especially the box it comes in, which will make a nice display. However, I've seen two versions of the box online.

The first (which is the one I want), looks like this:

http://ecx.images-amazon.com/images/...500_AA240_.jpg

The second looks like this:

The second one has painted wood detailing. The online ads for Best-Buy and Circuit City show the painted box, while Amazon, Deep Discount and B&N show the first one (the one I prefer). I was going to order from B&N, but I went to B&N to check out the box, and they had the painted box (Best-Buy had the painted box, also).

I would like to order from Amazon or Deep Discount, but I'm afraid of getting the painted box and having to hassle with returning it. Has anyone out there ordered this box from either of these two or another online retailer? If so, which box did you get?

I'm in the New York Metropolitan area, so if anyone knows of a B&M that has the first box, that would be fine also.

Thanks

it looks to me that the first one is DVD while the second one is hd DVD.

Thanks. That's what I thought at first, but there are 6 versions, one of each box for Blu-Ray, HD-DVD, and standard. I was also thinking that perhaps the unpainted box is not Region 1, but Amazon, DDD, and B&N are showing the unpainted box in all three formats on their websites.

I've only ever seen one box in person at stores. Are you sure that you're not just seeing different qualities of picture? I don't see the "painted on" wood you're talking about, it just looks like one picture is faded compared to the other. I could be wrong but I'm 99% sure that they're exactly the same box (other than the format difference).

Edit: I do see how they're slightly different along the top and along the bottom, but I'm pretty sure one was just an early picture or something. Again, I'm no expert and I could be wrong.

Hi Kory,

The ones I saw at the store were painted. The "wood" was about an inch from the ends, and not 3-dimensional, but painted on. It didn't look as nice as the unpainted ones look in the pictures. Here's another picture of the painted one, and it's obvious these are two different items:

Here's the unpainted one:

Does anyone have the unpainted box? I've seen these, and I also think they are the exact same painted box, with different labels and contents. It looks like the unpainted box you are referring to is a photo probably from pre-production or advertising only.

Hi Mr. B,

I think you may be right. I read through the reviews at Amazon, and two of the reviewers mentioned that the box they received was not as detailed as the picture. So it very well could be that the "unpainted box" pictures are promotional only. I'm big on display items, and this is blatantly false advertising.

However, WB has the Blu-ray set for 83 bucks, so I'm going to order it. Five blu-rays for that price plus all the extras are worth it, no matter what the box looks like. Once I get it, I'll call WB to complain about the false advertising, and hopefully they'll find it in their hearts to send me a credit coupon.
