please keep it there and stick to whatever the original topic here was as it would get confusing and not make sense for two similar threads to be open.

I would like to clarify that post #125 is a list of my personal Steelbook collection and not a definitive list.
For the definitive list, go to scott1598's thread.

I read on a few different boards where, there is a R2 5-disc Blade Runner Steelbook. After checking nurmerous online sites, I can confirm that Blade Runner is NOT available in a Steelbook case.
The Tin is similiar to the Superman 14-Disc Ultimate Collector's Edition Set.

i would like to ask if anyone has tried this -- i have one or two steelbooks that have small dimples on them, and i know that if i could just get at them from the inside i could flatten them out. but to do that would mean popping off the inside clear plastic liner. are the "insides" removeable enough for me to get in, pop out the dents and snap back without any permanent damage? i won't do it if there's glue that holds them in place. i just can't tell if they're glued down or snapped in place by something.

I've heard about people popping them out on accident through dropping them, and then they began popping them out on their own to put the paper insert in there, behind the plastic. I think you can do it easily, as far as I know, there's no glue. It's just a little tough.

really?? that's sounds like such a great idea, a place to stick the insert or back sleeve. can anyone with experience recommend where along the case i should start, to minimize damage?

I haven't tried to take out the entire plastic insert, but I have lifted the left side out so that I could insert the back paper artwork that comes with some of them. I only do this with steelbooks that don't have any artwork inside. I did it with Boondock Saints and Beowulf. Beowulf had the border on the inside similar to the outside, but I didn't mind covering it up partially with the artwork from the back paper it came with. There is no glue holding the plastic to the front and back cases, but it looks like there is glue to the inner spine. There are small plastic inserts, kind of like teeth or a rectangular plastic tab, that go into the inner edges of the case. I broke a few, but once I shook out the little plastic pieces, and popped the plastic back in, the plastic held fine. You have to be very careful not to scratch the edges of the metal with the plastic. I'm sure there is some type of tool that holds out the metal to insert these plastic trays, but I just use some force to pry the metal away from the plastic at the top left, then I pull out the metal carefully to get the plastic out enough to slip the paper in. I'd have to work my way around the case to get the entire plastic insert undone, but the spine looks like it has the metal outer cover glued to it. I got the idea from someone here that did it with the Grindhouse Steelbooks. I folded the paper and put it inside the cases then, and I still haven't pulled those off the shelves to do this to them. If there is artwork but no insert, I'll trim the paper to let it fit neatly on the left as an insert. I use my wife's scrapbook straight edge cutter, and I only take a bit off each side to get it to fit perfect. I've done that for Live Free or Die Hard, I Am Legend, and Appleseed Ex-Machina. I'll do it also for Sweeney Todd, trim the paper for an insert; can't permanently cover up Johnny walking away with that razor in his hand. Hope this helps some.

hey mr.b, thanks for the detailed response! breaking some of the tabs was a concern of mine, and it appears that from what you're describing it'll happen.
maybe someday somebody will take the time to fully investigate and document a damage-free process with pics/vids, using a really messed up dvd or videogame steelbook.

Re: Steelbooks - what's the big deal?
i honestly regret my steelbook purchase ... "Gotham Knight" the other 2 disc packaging was more impressive and cheaper. I could have price matched it for 12.99... dame do i regret it

Re: Steelbooks - what's the big deal?
Instead of making an another thread, I'll resurrect this one. I have to admit, I was very hesitant to buy Steelbooks or Metalpaks, but recently with these being on sale on various websites, I like'em. I am NOT a fan of the Best Buy cartoon artwork steelbooks, which are just crap, imo and are certainly not "limited" or valuable in any way. Definitely purchase steelbook protectors which you can find on eBay for around $1 a piece.

Re: Steelbooks - what's the big deal?
Resurrecting!
This question is particularly re: 4k steelbooks:
1) Do steelbooks tend to appreciate in value? I've never cared that much, but now that I am collecting 4k (and therefore purchasing some movies that I used to stream or rent in order to get peak quality), I'm tempted to get any steelbook release that looks moderately interesting, especially if I know I can flip it for about what I paid for it (or more) down the road.
2) How long do they generally stay in print? I bought Blank Panther 4k steelbook at Best Buy, and a bit surprised to see that anyone can still pick it up.
Not looking for sage wisdom on the future of 4k format or its desirability; just looking for the general trend with steelbooks. Thanks!

Re: Steelbooks - what's the big deal?
It's kind of a crapshoot. It kind of depends on what it is and if the steelbook got reprinted or if they released a different version. Some of the Marvel steelbooks that were exclusive to Best But sell well, but some of the non exclusives don't. I had listed the DVD for SB Batman: Gotham Knight and the Target exclusive BR SB for Ender's Game on ebay for a couple of months before they sold, and I probably got $15 total for both, but the Target Elysium SB sold for over $20.
The Arrow steelbooks and some more limited ones by smaller companies like the Flicker Alley Trip to the Moon SB usually have a high resell value too.
