Because I bought what I thought to be the US version on ebay and received the Canadian one.
Yes, there are a few differences between the Canadian and US release.

- The Canadian version, although the packaging states the transfer to be letterboxed widescreen 1.85:1, the transfer is in fact 2.35:1, and unfortunately isn't anamorphic.

- The US version, which is anamorphic, contain deleted scenes and feature a commentary.

Depending on who you ask, I think that the US version is the better one.

Oh, shit, I haven't watched it since I got my upconverting dvd player, so I didn't know it wasn't anamorphic! That sucks! Who wants to trade?!

EDIT: I didn't pop it into the dvd-player, but I'm looking at the back of the case now and it says it does have two commentaries, deleted scenes, and is presented in Anamorphic Widescreen 2.35:1. Phew, you scared me there for a minute.

Three weeks after it was released in the UK, it is currently unavailable.

It def seems to be oop, i'm in the uk and was after this as a christmas present. I had ordered it through HMV.co.uk. but got an email saying it was deleted and they were trying to obtain stock from other sources. I cancelled the order and managed to track a copy down after a bit hunting around the shops.

Happy new year to you all!

My second order from Amazon.de finally arrived today. The only casualty was X-men 3. One of the disc was a floater, due to poor quality control.

The King Kong case will look nice next to my King Kong DEE Gift Set, that I picked up from HMV for only $16.99.

I think they're awesome and look better than regular dvd cases. I dont mind paying a little more for a Steelbook.

I only have The Departed, Boondock Saints, Bourne Ultimatum and Ultimate Versus.

Going to get the Fight Club and Man on Fire Steelbooks. I saw some of the R2 Steelbooks and definitely wouldnt mind a few of those.

I just got the Ultimate Versus on here for $15. I'm pretty sure that's a good deal. Where's the best place for Man on Fire?

I think that all DVD cases should be steelbooks. They're solid, sturdy, and they give a nice weight to a DVD case the way that regular boxes used to give to VHS tapes. Most DVD cases now are the smaller, slimmer equivalent to Disney clamshell cases, which I never found particularly attractive.

I think if all DVD cases were steelbooks we would have tons of problems. There would be alot of breaking and squashing of the metal cases, the outside of the cases would get beat to death with marks and scratches to the metal. I know these cases are nice, a treat for DVD collectors, I enjoy them, but to have them be the standard case for consumers is just silly. Keeping them limited is the way to go.

Of all of the Steelbooks that I have, I would have to say that "Terminator 2 Judgment Day: Extreme Edition" from Japan is high on my "A" list of Steelbooks.

I haven't had time to open it yet but it weighs a massive 0.586 Kg, more than the weight of most TV Boxsets.

My Steelbook collection

R1 43 + 9 on order
R2 16 + 3 on order
R4 2 on order
