To list or not to list...

would the plastic that goes over "the nightmare before christmas" really count as a slipcover? i mean, i understand why it's there to protect the opening. but it's almost completely bare except for a reprinting of the title and then the digital copy information on the back.
I know what you mean, but i think obaqueness and total text can't be criteria. I just got "People vs Larry Flynt" Spec Ed and that SC is partially clear but totally different from the DVD cover, in fact it serves to censor the cover somewhat since the slipcover is meant to simulate the flag so it has 2 red strips which are translucent but the white stipes are not, because they strategically cover Woody Harrelson from an argueably obscene pose. Here's what i mean With Slip Cover http://ecx.images-amazon.com/images/...ZL._SS500_.jpg Just the raw DVD box http://ecx.images-amazon.com/images/...500_AA180_.jpg And i think we'ver already set a precedent on clear slip covers with things like Artisan's "King of New York" and the more recent "The Eye" 2 disc ver. The only real difference is the clear ones don't need a UPC window cut out...cuz they're clear :) But i think your question is valid for another reason. Since the 2 disc Nightmare packaging is basically just a 3D head shot of Jack S., it's not really "sell-able" without the slipcover, therefor violating the defination that Vale said. So maybe in this case, the 2 disc release does NOT belong on the list but certainly over clear slip covers with text do. |

Later Along those lines, unless theres a ton of French on it, i would be happy to pay anyone with access to the Canadian release of "Dexter S2, in money, slipcovers or both to send one down here. Let me know if anyone thinks they could do it...thanks. |

No, i haven't but anyone who knows the SC desert i live in should not take this as credible data. But i do hate when studios give one country an sc and not the other and it's the same region.

Here's what I saw today:
Bait Shop The Big Bang Theory: The Complete First Season Eli Stone: The Complete First Season How To Rob A Bank Next Avengers: Heroes of Tomorrow Also, this came out a few weeks ago but I don't know if it was mentioned: The Scorpion King 2: Rise of a Warrior (Bluray) |
Pic of the clear red slipcover that came with Dexter 2 at Bestbuy Canada. I noticed some fleck of blue.. Doesn't seem like it's suppose be part of the slipcover and must have rubbed off of something..
http://i142.photobucket.com/albums/r...0902081654.jpg Anyone seen this anywhere else in the US? Later |
Picked up Big Bang Theory today with slipcover. Didn't see Dexter red slipcover though johnsun.
Edit: Also, does the Office count as a slipcover? It's not over a regular case, but it still is a slipcover I guess. But Big Bang Theory is over a regular case. |
Update Complete (FINALLY!).
Thanks to all of you for contributing to the list! I still need to go in to do some cleaning up. |

I honestly don't know. So far I have only seen them @ the futureshop website. |
Nixon
Nixon: Election Year edition needs to be added also, thanks.

I bought Nightmare Before Christmas deluxe Edition and it did come with some sort of protective ''clear'' plastic case, which to me looks terrible. Was it just meant to protect the artwork in general or do you guys keep it on even though it's very ugly with the ''Includes Digital Copy'' border on top.

some new slipsleeves:
made of honor 88 minutes risky business 25th anniversary |
Here's what I saw today:
Pushing Daisies: The Complete First Season Pushing Daisies: The Complete First Season (Bluray) Speed Racer Speed Racer (Bluray) Lone Rider Never Cry Werewolf 101 Dalmatians (Live Action) (Reprint) 102 Dalmatians (Reprint) 101 Dalmatians II: Patch's London Adventure (Special Edition) Another Cinderella Story Beetlejuice (20th Anniversary Deluxe Edition) (Lenticular) An American In Paris (Two-Disc Special Edition) I also saw Speed Racer: The Next Generation - The Beginning which came out a few months ago, but is not on the list. |
The Target exclusive version of Speed Racer has a unique slipcover which IMO has much nicer artwork than the standard version.
Target also has Misery and Silence of the Lambs lenticular DVDs in their Halloween section that are similar to the ones posted above, but they aren't slilpcovers. It's a lenticular card shrink wrapped to the front of the DVD. |
Did "Slipstream" directed by Anthony Hopkins ever come with a slipcover?

Speed Racer (Bluray) ... Beetlejuice (20th Anniversary Deluxe Edition) (Lenticular) I've only seen the Beetlejuice lenticular at Target as well.. So my new slipcovers so far are (forgive any redundancy) 88 minutes Jim Henson's "Tortoise vs the Hare" Jim Henson's "The Purple Elephant" (Part of the "Unstable Fables" series) Breakfast Club - High school flashback edition Sixteen Candles - High school flashback edition Wierd Science - High school flashback edition Speed Racer single disc Speed Racer - Deluxe 2 disc edition (Target Only slipcover like "Penelope") I'll add more as i see them this week (Godfather reissues plus new box set comes out Tuesday...and i'm counting the nanoseconds) Something i saw at Sam's club and in this week Circuit City add which is going to be a huge headache catalyst for our hero, Vale (sorry pal) is this... I thought Blu-ray might be the only new subcategory for slipcovers, but here come the corporate blood hounds sniffing out any way to squeeze one more drop of blood (i mean money) from us DVD fans willing to double (triple) dip... "Digital Copy" DVDs are promoted as 2 disc packages with 1 disc being the Digital Copy ONLY and the being a regular DVD formated disc with only special features. THis blows my mind!! I can see marketing to the hip iPod, iPhone, "I only own digital media crowd" but you need a DVD player to access the special features..so i don't really get how this is a better option. Please don't be fooled, you do NOT get the DVD version of the movie, just the extras are DVD NTSC. You'd have to watch the movie on your PC or whatever. They are cheaper coming in at the ever popular $9.99 price point, but again, if you still live in the stone age and use a regular DVD player (like me), this is not for you. Add to rub salt in our collective wound, all the ones i saw at Sam's Club had nice slipcovers made specifically for the slim line cases these "new" re-releases come in. Here's the Circuit City add for the titles. For now it's mostly 20th Fox releases. I really hope this doesn't catch cuz i think it sucks, but for now, i guess these would be just a new category to go along the Blu-ray slip covers right? Out of curiosity, how many of you would prefer digital copies to standard NTSC format we currently use?? http://akimages.crossmediaservices.c...1936109899.jpg |
Just an FYI...the Lenticular Cover of Beetlejuice is also available at Best Buy...it is NOT exclusive to Target.

Out of curiosity, how many of you would prefer digital copies to standard NTSC format we currently use?? Just to make sure I'm understanding this right, when you buy these, there is NO disc to put in and watch on your tv? 1st disc - DIGITAL COPY ONLY 2nd disc - ONLY SPECIAL FEATURES If this is the case, I want to take a shotgun to the corporate hounds coming up with this. I hate digital copy. The only reason I ever end up with them is because the one-disc sets don't have $#!T special features so I end up having to get the 2-disc. I hope people don't buy these, and I really hope people don't buy them thinking they're getting a physical copy. I hate having only digital media because if I lose a hard drive (which is actually quite likely compared to my tv breaking) then I'm royally screwed. If my tv breaks, I get a new one, put my Raiders of the Lost Ark dvd in, and I still enjoy. I really hope this isn't the case, but if it is.....I am quite displeased. |
