Why does Wal-Mart always remove inserts?

I have bought quite a few DVDs from them the last few weeks, and hardly none of them have inserts. Rocky Balboa, Blood Diamond, and tons of others. I can tell they open them, because the sticker on top is generic with the name only, not the versions studios use.

Does anyone have any idea why Wal-Mart keep taking stuff out of the dvd cases?

Drexl 03-22-07 04:33 AM

I seriously doubt they're actually opening the cases and taking them out. Most movies these days just don't come with inserts.

Rypro 525 03-22-07 04:33 AM

Many studios these days aren't putting inserts in anymore.

NatrlBornThrllr 03-22-07 04:41 AM

Certainly a logical assumption, though. Right?

What the hell does this crazy man have to do with inserts? He's up to something, I'm sure.

I agree. I'd be very surprised to learn that Wal-Mart is actually opening each and every dvd just to remove the insert.

Your thread title says "always", yet you say "hardly none" here. If you're gonna troll against Wal*Mart at least either come up with better evidence or makeup a better reason.

acubfaninmd 03-22-07 07:21 AM

i dont think walmart has enough time to open up every dvd and take out every insert that you think is in there but it really isnt. dont know how many movies i have purchased recently that had an insert actually

bahgee 03-22-07 07:42 AM

It seems there are more slip cases than inserts these days.

rdclark 03-22-07 09:51 AM

This thread is too stupid to live.

Wouldn't such activity be illegal, at least without informing the buyer?

canaryfarmer 03-22-07 10:04 AM

Hey! Best Buy must be removing all of my inserts too!

acubfaninmd 03-22-07 10:37 AM

Phase 1: Collect inserts
Phase 2: ?
Phase 3: Profit!

Duh, that's how they keep their prices so low. :|

mxv 03-22-07 10:53 AM

Not only are they removing inserts, but often times they are also removing some of the picture on my DVDs and replacing them with black bars on the left and right sides!

Or black bars on the top and bottom since it does not fill my widescreen tv. :sarcasm:

If you go to walmart.com you can buy the inserts that they remove from the DVDs. They cost anywhere for $0.99 to $9.99 depending upon the content. The cheaper ones seem to be simple chapter list, the expensive ones are the booklet type. They have about 200 to chose from. I've bought a couple since I want my DVDs to be complete. Hope this helps.

rotfl

In the 2 years I worked in Electronics, at Walmart, I never removed anyone inserts. Sorry.

Maybe it is that little rollback smiley -biggrin-

Back a couple of years ago, when you bought a Disney DVD from most stores, there was an insert inside to send away for a free book (i.e. buy Cinderella DVD get Cinderella book free in the mail).

For whatever reason, Walmart never seemed to have the insert for the free book. I stopped buying from them since I wanted the free book.

My theory at the time was that they were able to get a better price from the manufacturer without the free book coupon. Not sure if that was true, but it made sense to me.

But I'm pretty sure they didn't actually open the DVD and remove the insert.... -rolleyes-

I'm sorry to confess that it's true. Wal-Mart does indeed remove inserts from DVDs. I work there and that's what I do every Monday night. We pull every DVD out of the box, pull off the shrinkwrap, slice open the security labels, pull out the insert, re-seal the DVD and then put them on the shelves.

The job title is "Insert Taker Outer" and it pays 10¢ less then minimum wage. For an extra nickel tho, I throw out all the Widescreen DVDs too.

Time for me to brush up on my dumpster diving skills.

Sweet Baby James, shall we tag-team / attack the Shelton, CT. together ;) ?

I think there may be some truth to that. I have noticed that many of the Disney promo inserts in new releases at Circuit City will not have coupons that are included at other stores.
