Casino Royale (06) Zinema, etcetera

Anyone planning on making (or have already made) a Zinema-style cover for Casino Royale? (2006 version) It'd be a shame not to have a fully matched set, I think.

If no one else has done/will do it, I've been planning on spending some hours in Photoshop, creating a suitable facsimile, but I didn't want to go to tons of work if someone had already done it.

If it hasn't been done yet, or isn't planned to, I'd be more than happy to get started on it so people can have matching sets, but with the way I work in PS, it'll probably be a while. (That's why I mention it quite a while before it actually releases on DVD.)

Nobody, huh? So I guess it's on me then?

I'm not even familiar with these covers, but I like the look. Why not try to contact the artist who did the others? I'd imagine they're probably working on CR, or will be soon.

Well, for one, because apparently he hasn't been seen in a while, because his "official" covers stop at "The World Is Not Enough".

"Die Another Day" was done by someone else, in order to match the existing covers, much like I'm suggesting/offering doing now.

Try contacting DarthVong. I believe he made the Zinema-style Die Another Day cover. He also has several other Bond sets of his own creation.

Michael Corvin 02-01-07 02:59 PM

Vongy still visits from time to time. I'm surprised he hasn't chimed in yet. I'm pretty sure he is in "break" mode right now though.

Okay, so just so I can get the lineage of these covers straight, is "Zinema" the name of the original artist, or were the covers done to match the style of a certain company, etc.?

Arithon 02-01-07 07:35 PM

Zinema was the original artist (for 1-19), his are still hosted on a site by themselves. Someone else, (it was suggested to be DarthVong here) did "Die Another Day" to match the Zinema covers.

Ah, okay, it makes sense now.

joliom 02-03-07 02:53 AM

Actually, I was wrong. It was Matt D. (a.k.a. MDX), the operator of the gone-but-never-forgotten DVDCA, and one of the original members of the custom cover scene here at DVDTalk, that did the Zinema-tribute "Die Another Day" custom. I don't know if he's been heard from in a long time. But if I'm not mistaken, Vong did work up some sort of Zinema template at one point too. He did the Austin Powers covers that closely mirror the Zinema design, so it's obviously well within his abilities in any case. Since he's apparently on hiatus, maybe someone else with good skills is up for the job.

casino royale custom

Hello Friends,

I'm with Joliom, I really hope Vong does a sweet custom for ROYALE. The retail artwork has to go.

Well, if I had access to the template, it'd make my work a lot easier. If not, it'll take me a while longer to perfect it, but I should be able to do it. If anyone happens to have a template for it, send it my way, and I'll prepare a cover. If not, I'll have to do it from scratch.

DarthVong 02-05-07 02:32 PM

I never did the Zinema version of Die Another Day, that would've been Matt from the now extinct DVDCoverart.com. He recreated the template from scratch to make DAD match.

I created a retail template to make DAD match the original retail covers.

I don't have the free time anymore to spend creating intricate covers otherwise I would take a crack at it.

Disc-Flipper 02-09-07 01:45 AM

jblamb already made some Casino Royale covers on r1db.com which match the original retail covers.

SPEAKING OF CASINO ROYALE...

Are there any nice quality scans of the front and back covers of the 2-disc widescreen edition.

For Dad's birthday, I want to print them out and slip into a DVD case so he can open up the mock DVD as my promise to get him one on release day (his birthday is 2 weeks before release date)

This site has what I need but not allowing rightclick saves

Many of those pages which don't allow right-click saves, you can parse the image URL by examining the source HTML.

GuessWho 02-09-07 03:15 PM

Got it, thanks D-F!

Arithon 03-13-07 11:27 PM

Alright, progress report: I've been absolutely busting tail on the Zinema-styled Casino Royale cover, and things have been progressing quite well. Template 60%-ish done, back pictures and text chosen (but not yet inserted), spine logo shifted so that #21 will continue the "007" logo across the spines seamlessly. Things left to do are match the title coloring, and choosing how it'll look on the spine, put in the credits info...and the biggest stumbling block:

Finding a high enough resolution image of the movie poster to fit to the front. All the ones I've located, even the ones called "high-res" are woefully inadequate to the task. I really don't want to use Photoshop to enlarge them, as that will never look as good printed out.

If anyone knows, or has a really large, crisp image of the movie poster so I can continue this cover, that'd be great.

Arithon,

Have you tried outnow.ch?
http://outnow.ch/media/posters/2006/...-CasinoRoyale/

You will need to register, but it's free. The poster images they have there for CR are quite large.

Matt has been working on one... Click here!

mdX 03-14-07 06:13 PM

the cover will be completed next week when I return home from a business trip. if someone wants to host it, drop me a line.

Arithon 03-14-07 07:13 PM

Lol, I love you. Also, as far as hosting, there's always the option of loading it up to something like YouSendIt, and just passing the download link out to people that want it, and letting them spread it from there in the same way. YSI allows up to, I do believe, 1GB uploads, with a 7 day/30 download timer per file.

Looks great, though.

Wow. How have you been? Visit any of the cover sites?

mdX 03-15-07 10:15 PM

I've been doing well, but haven't done anything cover-related until I received a few emails asking me to do a Casino Royale cover
