Paramount releasing new covers on old titles...

Just saw at Best Buy that Election and The Gift both had new covers, but the same features as before.

Of course, the Election cover was a huge head photo of Broderick and Witherspoon, unlike the old cover where it had Witherspoon's mouth open and Broderick peering through it.

Has anyone else seen new covers on old Paramount titles?

The gift is an improvement. Not great, but definitely better than floating heads.

I think both are an improvement, but that's not saying much. Since Paramount seems to be in a cover revision mood, how about updating Trading Places and Better Off Dead? They can't get any worse than they already are.

... or Real Genius!

Btw, they've done this with a bunch of the John Wayne films too like The Shootist, True Grit, The Sons of Katie Elder, The Man Who Shot Liberty Valance, El Dorado, Big Jake, In Harm's Way, and Rio Lobo.

Well, those have a point - they're now "John Wayne Collection" films, completing a set with new SEs of Wayne's films (McClintock! and so on).

Is it just me, or does it look like Reese Whitherspoon's head doesn't belong on that body in the new Election cover?

"The Gift" is a very slight improvement. The original cover had a horrible sense of compostion.

It would be really nice if Paramount would re-do all of the Star Trek movie SEs in standard-sized Amary doubles instead of those double-wide things.

Please add Rosemary's Baby, The Parallax View and Three Days of the Condor to this list.

Anybody else see any new Paramount covers?

If I remember correctly, that's already been "redone", since it's not the original key art.

joliom 08-18-06 03:57 PM

It's also not a Paramount DVD.

The Two Jakes.

Didn't realize that, but another good point. Since this thread is about Paramount, 48 Hrs. and Another 48 Hrs. both leap to mind, although isn't there already a thread about cover changes in general? Time to merge, I suspect.

The other thread you are thinking of is snappers that are not in keepcases.

Just went to Best Buy today and saw 200 Cigarettes had a new cover. Once again, not as good as the original.

Just saw another one at Walmart. Searching for Bobby Fischer. Have to say, this one wasn't that bad.

anybody have a nice scan of the front cover for the new "Talent For The Game" dvd

tylergfoster 03-17-07 07:45 PM

Chinatown
Congo
Rosemary's Baby
You Can Count on Me

I thought I could think of more, but I'm totally blanking. Whenever Wal-Mart has one of those big cardboard displays of Paramount movies -- they have one now for "spring" movies, I guess -- that's a good chance to spot them.

I don't like the new ones because I actually like Widescreen/Fullscreen bars on the movies, I guess it makes the cover look like a cover, it frames the image for me. The only revision I've seen that I liked was Rosemary's Baby. The front cover is essentially the same and the back cover has a reasonably nice design.
