Do those 4-5-6 disc cases that are single width really exist?
I have haerd rumors and unconfirmed reports that there are cases (avaiable in the US) that hold 4-6 DVDs and the case is the same width as a single amaray. Do these really exist? and where can I buy them
|

Those are awesome. Anyone have any? What kind of quality are they? That would definitely be worth it. It would be sweet to convert all my tv show box sets into one single width case. That would free up so much space, it boggles my mind. :)

I too would love to know all-around quality of the 6 or 8 disc holders! Right now I've got double slim cases for my Deep Space Nine episodes since I'm scared the original casing will break over time, and if I can fit them in a single wide case, that would be wonderful! The double slim ones I have are kinda shabby though, as the discs seem to pop out too easily and could become floaters on my shelf.
Heck, even two 4 disc holders would be great! |
From what I can see, those 6 and 8 DVD cases are wider than a single width...is this correct? I see that they have 1" wide spines, clearly larger than a regular single amaray case.
They're still great ho, don't get me wrong. |
I am going to get a 10 pack of each in a week or so. These will save me a ton of shelf space and they look better than those ugly fat alphas, those things just look out of place on my shelf. I have some of the Slim Triples and these look as though they use the same hub & style. If so the hubs are OK, not great but they do hold better than alphas and I have had no floaters from any of mine

what I gathered from the site,
Any case that holds up to 4 discs is standard dvd spine size. the 6/8 disc cases: Spine is 1", double the size of a standard case, so that makes it impossible to print a cover on a regular "letter" size sheet of paper. The total width of the cover is 11 1/2" wide. |
The 4 disc ones are the same size as a single disc, but they have no insert clip (Not a big deal for me, as I use them for TV Episodes). The 3 discs do have the clip.
To be honest, I'm rather ignorant on what type of hub they have..tis circular, with a triangular center, with "push" on it. They are nice for what i need them for. I ordered from Genesys...seemed to come quickly, but I'm not sure the price was as competetive as it could be, but for 23 and change, I got a 10 pack of 3 and 4 disc cases, shipped via UPS. |
Anyone know of a place to get some cheap Legal(11x14) size photo paper? Or even some 8 1/2" x 14"? I am seriously thinking of converting all my tv sets. The only place I have even seen the paper is CompUSA. Epson 11x14, and it is something like $30 for 15 sheets. A bit high if you ask me. $2 per sheet?
Any alternatives? Maybe I can just split the cover in two. |
Kodak makes glossy 11x17 paper: http://www.staples.com/Catalog/Brows...e=1&Sku=379538
$30 for 25 sheets. Yields very good results, but if your printing a cover with alot of black, let it dry for a couple days otherwise the black parts will stick to the plastic on the DVD case. |

How does the matte look? I haven't used anything but premium glossy photo paper in the past.

These sound a lot nicer. All around, it seems the 4-disc is the way to go. I want to use them for seven seasons of about 8 discs per season. The 4-disc holder just seems a less unwieldy type of container. Anyone have the 8-disc holder and give any opinions on it? :) |
here you go, I just made the mock up so everyone can compare:
http://www.glasssignco.com/Images/dvdcases.gif So it is 6 of one and a half dozen of another, size-wise. Go with the smaller ones you have more cases, you print more, use more paper & ink($). Go with the bigger size and you have to buy bigger paper which costs more. |
Thanks for that mock up Michael, I think thoe 6-8 Disc cases will be the best for me. It won't cost me any extra (I pay $2 per printout either way) and they look like the save a little shelf space (alot if the collection is 7+ disc (X-Files/CSI: Miami/24)

Couldn't resist. Just ordered:
10 pack - 6 disc case 10 pack - 4 disc case 100 sheets - Epson S041067 Legal paper This will be sweet to knock out 10 seasons of Friends into a quarter of the space, as well as 7 Seasons of Stargate. Plus various other shows that only have a couple of seasons out (NYPD: Blue, ER, Quantum Leap etc). |
Let me know when you get a 4-Disc ER done, I really want covers for them. Customs would be nice but scans will suffice. And a Episode Guide would rule the day :)
|
Scaramanga did some cool ER customs, I will have to check with him see if they are hosted somewhere and get them. They are pretty nice. Will probably have to adapt them to a single case though. I will keep you posted jje.

scara's ER covers are on The Den. There are also some pretty good looking customs by an artist named bernau on there also

i bought 25 of the three-disc, 25 of the four-disc, and 40 of the six-disc cases last month, and i love them. when we remodeled, i had in-wall shelving built in the media room for 800 discs, and am now full. these are a good "cheat" to keep the wife happy about the number of titles we own, and without adding more storage space. these new eight-disc cases will be good for my Star Trek TNG and DS9 season sets. I previously had them in the huge 7-disc alpha cases with this artwork:
http://www.rixgrafix.com/index_009.htm now i'll take these files and alter them to fit the slim spines of the 8-disc cases. hopefully Ric won't mind. i don't intend to distribute them, just for my own use. |

i think the 6 discers are perfectly fine to handle. the 8 disc cases may be another story, but i'll put up with it for the space savings.
|
Anyone have the template for the 6/8 disc cases with the 1" spine?
Thanks. |
I've been using the template of a Alpha triple, and that's worked for me.
