New cases with 'locks'

Is it just me, or are these new keepcases with the little latch locks on them annoying as hell? It seems that about half of the new releases I buy come in this type of case. I don't understand the point of them. Are they supposed to be "child-proof"? I had to buy a bunch of blank cases, mainly to exchange these, and some pre-owned stuff in BBV and Hollywood cases.

I don't remember which title it was but about the third time I got one of those I got one which said it was a twist off tab which it does do quite easily. They bugged me before that but I find now that you just bend it back and forth a couple of times and then twist and the tab comes right off and it works as a normal case just fine.

I hate these new cases! I remember the first time I encountered this *&^%$#@ case is when I bought "Love Actually" DVD.

It was dark at that time and right after I took the plastic tape around it, I tried to open the case... It didn't even open! So I opened it with a force and I broke the case open!

It was too late for me to find out that it has 2 locks that you have to open :-(

One of the new ones I bought has it (Anchorman, Napolean Dynamite, or Garden State). Either way, I almost ripped the case in half trying to open it. Hulk smash!!

It pisses me off too, I have no idea who's brilliant idea this was and it's friggin' annoying as all hell.

exactly...it keeps the shoplifters from just slicing the sides and slipping the disc out. I like them.... also, they do twist off quiet easily.

agreed...something like the plastic piece that keeps the cheese off the top of the pizza box

I hate the locking cases too. Even though you can snap off the tabs, the case looks like crap when you do. I replace them all with standard Amarays. Btw, a thief with a knife can still cut through the plastic tabs. I realize it's a added deterant, but it's not like it's steel-bolted.

okay, my mum just bought a couple dvd of the marilyn monroe collection at the supermarket for me. the case has this lock on it with a red locked symbol and looks liek you should be able to slide it to the green locked. I broke one open and I don't understand at all how it works. there is a magnet or metal circle on a tab inside it. the whole thing is inside the case. there's no catches or buttons or things to press.

how do you open these things?

Is there is a lil machine that the supermarket might have that opens it?
I don't have the reciept so going back in with it will look suspicious :P

yep, the tabs suck.

Almost as much as when no one can read your posts except you and the mods.
