Custom dvd cover spines
I'm not too picky about the original front and the back covers since the spine is the one that is always visible. The dvd spines are something that bother quite a lot... I just don't understand why is it so hard for a studio to make the elements to line up in their dvd cover spines... The spine pictures, logos and stuff are always all over the place. Because it seems to be an impossible task for a studio to match their dvd's spines, I decided to create matching spines of my own.
I started a separate thread for this since the original thread I posted these had a misleading title and the spines created by the thread started were no longer available and I was the only one posting the spines. Feel free to use the Photoshop template to create matching spines of your own.
Original thread: http://www.dvdtalk.com/forum/showthread.php?t=271444
The top and the bottom of the spines contain small marks to indicate where to cut them. Place the spine strip over the spine of the original dvd cover art. Close the dvd case. No need to use tape or anything to hold the spine in it's place.
Printing resolution: 100 pixels/cm. I think your spines are awesome, and I am going to use the David Lynch ones because I have all of his movies, but I want to do the David Cronenberg ones also, but you don't have Crash or EXestenZ on there. And I tried that link to the template from the other post, but it wouldn't work. If you could try it again that would be great, thanks. Keep up the good work, they are awesome and I think a great idea.

Wow, thanks, those new ones are awesome. I had made some on my own based off of your idea, but yours turned out better, I am still working out how to do it. M. Butterfly isn't on dvd yet as far as I know in any region, so I guess that is why you couldn't find anything.
How do you get the title so pristine looking. My copy and pasteing doesn't look as clean? |
Here are some sweet custom Bruckheimer's if you want more than the spine. They look sharp printed out.
link Also bumped the thread. It should be on the first page somewhere. |
Great Spines! I'm the same way in that when a series doesnt line up (or is put out by different companies) it drives me nuts! 2 Questions for you- Would you possibly consider doing Spielbergs Films and maybe Stephen King Films? Awhile back someone had started some SK covers that looked like books, but just spines would be great!
If you can't, thats cool, maybe I'll give it a shot. Thanks again! Keep up the good work. |
Don't have that many Stephen King movies so I don't think I will do the spines...
As for Spielberg... It's a bit tricky... some of his stuff is in snappers (Empire Of The Sun) and some have special packaging (Indy, Schindler, ET), so it's hard to build a complete lineup of it... I'll see what I can do... On the other hand, I'd love to see someone else use my template and do their own... |
Thanks for the response. I might try my hand at some Stephen Kings...maybe, lol. I'll try it. Also, any chance for a Escape from NY for the Carpenter Films? Thanks!
|
Thanks! I appreciate it! Keep up the good work- look forward to upcoming ones.

Very nice work , looks like i will have to grab a few for the j. chan movies and some others.

They look great Mikko, I'm gonna replace some of mine with these today. I hope one day you find the time to finish out the M. Night Shyamalan titles and maybe add a couple more Halloween ones as well. These are truly awesome.

Thank for all the work. I've followed your thread for sometime just never had the time. I have a few spines that i would like to do. However, I just have one "stupid" question. I downloaded your template, do you make multiples out of that or just one.
Thanks. |
thanks Mikko, they look great. There are some in there that I'll use. :) I appreciate the hard work.
|
thanks these are incredible
I'm planning on modifying them a bit if you don't mind. I have a shelf of DTS dvds that I want to keep consistent. http://img231.imageshack.us/img231/2...atordts0dl.jpg it's a piece of crap, but it's just a draft, and a start of something special to me. any advice? -Chile |
thanks again mikko. to the editing room.

Is there another place to get the spine template? The link on the first page is dead. I would like to create a few of my own for some TV sets, and I would like to use the template. Thanks.

How would you suggest applying those Friends spines to the boxes that Region 1 Friends DVDs come in? Thanks!
|
Any chance you have CSI:Miami Season 1?
Thanks |
