I currently have Terminator 2 (compliments of Artisan). Anyhow, I'm seriously thinking of putting the UE on pre-order. Besides the fact the movie is one of my favorites, dts, extra footage, and tons of extras is really tempting me to purchase the UE.

How about you guys? Own T2 now and going for the UE?

Thanks

Jonathan

As you stated, I received my copy from Artisan for free so I may list it on ebay and purchase the new copy for the extra minutes added to the film!!! http://talk.dvdtalk.com/ubb/smile.gif

I got $12 for my T2 on ebay. I have the UE pre-ordered at buy.com

Oh heck yeah I'm getting the UE for T2 http://talk.dvdtalk.com/ubb/smile.gif
Just sold the copy of the old edition
that I bought for 50% off at Reel
on ebay. I think this is one that
will hopefully be worth replacing
if the UE is as good as it looks http://talk.dvdtalk.com/ubb/smile.gif

I don't really think I am going to get it. The only reason to get it would be for the extras and I don't if I care about them that much anymore.

evenswr 07-17-00 02:35 PM

Got $13.50 or something like that for mine on eBay.

Sold all my Universal Horror discs, too, since I got in on the $75 for the box set deal at DVDEmpire.com a few weeks back.

This eBay thing is starting to pay off. I'm thinking about re-joining Columbia House and getting 2 copies of Armageddon Criterion just to sell on eBay...

Definitely getting the UE! I've got to have DTS sound and I've got to have the extended special edition of the film. I've got to, mister...

there also 3 versions of the film. In my opinion, the DC is enough for me to upgrade to the UE. Personally, I still dig extras, so thats even a bigger bonus, but I'm mostly getting this for the extended version.

Can someone pop in the old barebones release and let me know how it looks compared to today's discs?

tks

milo bloom 03-20-03 11:29 AM

It looks like this got moved out of reviews, so I'm giving it a little bump.

pdjennings 03-20-03 11:40 AM

Of course.

snow patrol 03-20-03 11:45 AM

Nope, not me. I'll stick with the one I have.

edytwinky 03-20-03 11:53 AM

The UE is overhyped. I have it and it's good for one view and that's it.

Ginwen 03-20-03 11:59 AM

I have the original one. I got it for free (actually, probably $2 or so) right after getting my DVD player (I had to buy Highlander to get a free one, but Highlander was like $5).

I've never watched it in all the time I've had it, so probably won't get the new one.

Anyone else notice this thread was started 07-16-00!

But the post is still relavant. Creepy.

milo must have done some serious searching to pull this one up.

Ginwen 03-20-03 02:52 PM

That's funny. I noticed it was talking about UE instead of "Extreme Edition" but figured that was just a typo (who can keep track of all the names, anyway). I didn't even think of looking at the date.

DavidH 03-20-03 03:28 PM

I don't know why the UE is held in such reverence by so many people.

The transfer is average at best. There are unnecessary compression artifacts and too much EE. The soundtrack is certainly this disc's strong point.

There are a lot of extras, but mostly fluff. Those three little documentaries are pretty weak, as are the other features. I have DVDs that have far better extras.

I look forward to the Extreme edition and I'm excited about this new transfer.

milo bloom 03-20-03 03:31 PM

I pulled it up because search is my friend :)

Anyways, I was asking for a review of the old single disc barebones version of the theatrical cut. From what I can tell, it's 16x9, but I was wondering how it's held up over the years. I don't own any version of the film and I don't think I've ever watched it straight thru. I was thinking of getting the new EE for the commentary and SE cut, and the old one for the theatrical cut and the DVS track.

tks

The video quality of this film on D-VHS exhibits a noticeable improvement in direct A/B comparison to the DVD version (reviewed here). However, the difference in quality isn't as great as it is for the other D-VHS titles I've seen thus far. There is much greater color fidelity on D-VHS than the disc exhibits (although there does seem to be a slight red push on the D-VHS version), along with superior contrast and shadow delineation. As one would expect from the 1080i resolution, the D-VHS also delivers more subtle (and no-so-subtle) improvement in detail. Still, the video image looks noticeably softer overall than the other D-VHS movies I've reviewed, and print artifacts are somewhat more visible (the occasional bit of dust and rougher film grain). Strangely, the same tiny bit of edge enhancement seen on the DVD is also visible on the D-VHS version, but (as with the DVD) the picture doesn't suffer for it. In the end, the D-VHS image quality is definitely superior to the DVD, but the difference isn't as dramatic as I expected. I've only seen a handful of other D-VHS transfers as of the time of this review, but suspect that Terminator 2's high-def image quality will eventually fall in the very good, but not superior, category
Maybe the dvd might be better than the dvhs.

Hey, doesnt Artisan's Ultimate Edition already have the extended cut as a hidden feature. I remember having to figure out some code to access it with the remote. It took awhile to, I had to cheat and get the code off this very forum.

Is the Extreme edition going to have a different cut?

UH, is this a joke?

Rypro 525 03-20-03 04:49 PM

the extreme dvd will have the laserdisc directors cut. (aka the special edition.)
