Bank Dick CC to go OOP in September 2004

Criterion's edition of Edward Cline's The Bank Dick, starring W.C. Fields, will be available only through August 31, 2003. This title will be out of print and unavailable come September 2004.
i guess this has something to do with the WC Fields reissues coming in November from Universal...

Well Universal is releasing a W.C. Fields boxset this fall, which includes The Bank Dick. No word on whether the titles will be available separately though. I already have the Criterion release and the only other title in the box I'm desperate to buy is It's A Gift.

I'm guessing that the Universal will be better and cost less. The Criterion is devoid of extras, so unless Univerasal completely screws up, then the Criterion is perhaps only for completists.

I guess I am going to be one of the rare ones who is selling off their Criterion and investing in the Universal set.
From what I read when the Universal set was announced, it will be released as a single unit set in a digipak. In other words, the individual titles will NOT be released separately.
If this is case, I would rather sell off my CC copy of The Bank Dick and recover the original cost (which should bel within reason, I think) and then invest that toward the box set. As was mentioned, the CC version isn't that spectacular as far as extras, and the Universal set may very well be a better presentation.

Thanks for the heads-up.
I never found compelled to buy this one right away, but I do collect the Criterion titles, and try to pick them up before they go OOP.
