Since it's a 'Dalvin' post, it's impossible for me to believe his story.

However, I have seen large DVD purchases before.

I have dropped $1100 at a going out of business sale at Lazer Video 2 yearsago, where I picked up about 2/3 of the criterion collection at half off prices. I knew I was going to buy them anyway and I had just received my tax return. One of the best purchases I ever made.

Working for B&M stores for 14 years I have seen all kinds of large transactions. When DVD was first taking off I was working for Borders in San Francisco and I and 4 other employees helped a woman who dropped almost $10,000 on DVDs. At the time we only had six fixtures worth of DVD. She bought half. Our registers only would allow for 99 items to ring up in one transaction. I had to run her card (AMEX) five times. After checking her I.D. and after the second $2000.00 charge I got the "call for verification" message from the credit card company. They talked to her and everything was kosher. All of her purchases filled about 10 of our shipment boxes and I had to get a flat bed hand truck to get the stuff to her car. I am not a car buff but it was one of those really big Mercedes. After loading the stuff in she gave me a $100 tip. In passing while she was bringing load after load to the register she mentioned something about living on a island. There are rich people out there that have the $$$ to drop when they want.
