Leon; which version to get

There's just so many versions of this one!

Which one is best?

1.

2.

I was thinking of getting 1. but I want to get the best version of Leon so I wasn't sure about it.

Can anyone help?

Thanks

Get the one called Leon...the International Cut...but be sure to get the one with the fixed sound...the UPC is different I believe...and it says "Newly Remastered Dolby Digital 5.1"

theres a port of the great long version japanese disc out in korea : www.kroeandvds.com - theyre great... also see www.dvdetective.com (when they get back online)...

What "great long version japanese disc?" The longer version is not exclusive to Japan.

The new Japanese disc is the best out there, hands down. It has DTS and the Korean disc doesn't.

Specifically look for the 5th bullet in the "Special Features" list called "Newly Created English 5.1 (Dolby Digital)"

Below is a photo of the flawed international DC version to avoid:

Notice that the word "Newly" doesn't appear anywhere. These are mostly out of print anyway, so I doubt you'll find anywhere that sells it.

QuiGonJosh 07-16-04 11:51 AM

yeah it was a couple a years ago that I exchanged my other one for the new one...

shawagg 07-16-04 04:17 PM

So that explains why there were two release dates for this one.

I was wondering why there was another re-print of this released a month after the intial one.

So I'm still on the fence about this. Does anyone know if the Leon included in the first link above is the flawed or fixed one?

Does anyone have this boxset?

Also if I get a flawed one, will Sony exchange it?

Your best bet is just to pick it up at CC or Best Buy...

I ordered the International version from DDD 3 weeks ago and they sent the new, corrected copy. That's another option.

This was corrected VERY shortly after release. You'd have to be a pretty unlucky person to get the old version (either 'live' or from an online retailer).

I have this version:

http://www.cafedvd.co.kr/image/bigimg/9740.jpg

It has both the theatrical and directors cuts on separate discs and I think the DD 5.1 track on them are the correct ones.

Course you need to be region free, but if you are, at $14.00 its a good deal.

The corrected copy of Leon has 06196 on the spine I believe.

Thats one ugly cover, but its the movies that count so $14 for both versions seems like a good deal.

I just have the corrected International version. That will do me just fine :)

natevines 07-17-04 01:21 AM

I just picked up the superbit.
There are no extras lost as the regular DVD as no extras and it IS the vastly superior international cut.

Duder 07-17-04 03:38 AM

Argh. I just checked mine and it's the old (not remastered sound) one. So what's wrong with it? Is it worth it to upgrade?

shawagg 07-17-04 03:47 AM

Ok... here's the deal. I bought the collection from the first link during the DDD sale.

Thing is I don't want to remove the shrink wrap unless it's the corrected version.

The spine says "06196LB"

It's the uncut international version with the extra 26 min. 133min total.

But the decprition on the back says only "Audio English (DD) and 2-Channel (D Surround)" It doesn't say "Newly..."

DVD Release Date: 11/6/2001

So from this info and the link can anyone educate me? Should I keep it or return it? And if I do keep it, how do I spot the defect. What do I listen for?

Thanks :)

There is virtually no surround sound. Actually the corrected version has no surround in the first 10 seconds (or so) of the movie. I just noticed this not long ago.

Actually your missing out on Eric Serra's awesome score Isolated in 5.1

The Superbit also has the bad sound mix...you shoulda got the regular Leon edition...

Here are some links already covering these discussions that might be helpful (I know, I'm probably too late:))

Leon: The Professional Remastered sound problem?

Leon The Professional Regular vs International vs Director's Cut

Do u prefer Leon or The Professional?

These don't include the link that eau already provided.

Actually that picture doesn't do it justice. Its actually a very nice digi-pack set. The 6 circles in front are actually bullet holes to pictures on the inside packaging.

At least I like it better than a close up of Reno's noise hairs.
