And yes, threadcrap or not: this movie DID suck, but the DTS/DLP combination made that just not matter....

While I have no doubt that the movie will probably not rise above the level of any other disaster movie from the late 70's, all I ask is that the movie delivers Lots of Shit Blowing Up Real Good! Anything beyond that - character development, plot, story - is not nessassary.

What - wait a sec. A disaster movie that doesnt deliver a FX extravaganza disaster? A Roland Emmerich film that doesnt blow stuff up real good?
What happened? Am I on Bizzaro-World or something?

The only thing this movie did was waste 2 hours of my time-
I just hope as far as the special features they have an interview with Dennis Quaid and ask him why he acts the same in every movie he is in

I enjoyed this film. Just lilke I enjoyed ID4. Its a guilty pleasure
Even when "Shit" is not getting blown up it still held my attention. The dialogue is almost self mocking so you know everyone on the screen is having fun too.
Id recommend a rental if you havent seen it yet.

There ain't much going on even during the disaster! The movie mainly focuses on the relationships between people (mainly Dennis Quaid and his son, Jake Gyllenhall). It is an ensemble piece that boils down to "what if we made Independence Day and took away the aliens and most of the plot?" which translates into "how would 6 people act if they knew the world was ending?" Sadly, most of the special effects were shown in the trailers. The destruction of half of the planet is so underplayed in the story that it barely exists.
I really enjoyed ID4 (and Armageddon for that matter). Day After Tomorrow doesn't even begin to hold a candle to ID4 though. Yes, ID4 is a cheesy summer flick with great popcorn dialogue and a fantastic ensemble cast. DAT is a cheesy summer flick trying to be serious and not admitting that it is a cheesy summer flick. The dialogue was bland and the cast was severely under-utilized. Indeed, it would be more appropriate to lump DAT in with 70's disaster flicks than with modern apocolypse films like ID4, Armageddon, and Deep Impact. Like those Leslie Neilsen and George Peppard extravaganzas, DAT thinks that it is a serious movie.
