OAR for Kickboxer?
I just recently have gotten into Van Damme movies and have a question about Kickboxer. I have noticed that the current dvd is fullscreen. The OOP disc released in 98 was widescreen. Was the movie filmed fullscreen and the matted for widescreen? Is it worth it to hunt down the OOP version? I have also noticed that "Lionheart", "Sudden Death" and "Timecop" are fullscreen. Were they filmed that way? Thanks.

Beware of the R2 Kickboxer wide screen DVD because it is cut, I think all the other regions are Full screen at the moment, I have been waiting for Lion Heart "Wrong Bet" for ages now for a wide screen release and will keep waiting until it is release, this was one of my favorite video tapes. I hope this helps ...BMatt All information taken from IMDB Jean-Claude Van Damme Filmography |
I could not believe they released Kickboxer and the Sho Kusugi ninja movies in fullscreen, I refuse to buy this movie because of how horrible it would look on my 16:9 Front Projector setup.
It really is a shame, because I love this cheesy Van Damme flick! I die of laughter every time that dancing scene come on. "You a good danca? American dancing?" "Ya" LOL |

I've been hearing about the Uncut Kickboxer for awhile and the movie has been popping up on newsgroups and sites we can't mention here. Havent checked it to see if it is uncut, but then again, I doubt I would remember some of the details. I am thinking that for a film this old, uncut would be pretty tame by today's standards.

I held off on buying Timecop for a looong time waiting for a widescreen release, but finally had to give in as it appears R1 will never get one.

I have the OOP version and it is anamorphic. It's the exact same as the original VHS version that was released a long time ago. If there is an uncut version I have never seen it. I know the movie well enough to know if something was added....so I guess all I can say is that its the exact same as the old VHS print :)
The pic quality is nice too. |
I just picked up the OOP version from half.com for $35. Did every copy come in a snapper case?
